3 action Tubi movies to watch this weekend (April 3-5)

Action is a genre that never goes out of style. Action movies of the 1970s were based on grit and realism, while the 1980s ushered in the era of muscular lone wolves and anti-heroes. The 1990s turned more into science fiction and drama, and the 2000s into superheroes. Although the basic themes remain the same, the genre continues to evolve.

Tubi, a free ad-supported streaming servicehas an entire section dedicated to it action movies of all time. Two of the movies on the list are from the late 1980s and feature famous actors playing their best roles. However, our top recommendation features a famous actor playing a vigilante out for revenge.

Road House

The one with Patrick Swayze, not Jake Gyllenhaal

I love Jake Gyllenhaal as an actor, especially when he undergoes an extreme physical transformation. The Oscar nominee was gathered to become a star Road HouseA reimagining of the 1989 film of the same name by Amazon MGM Studios. Gyllenhaal certainly elevates the material, but the film is more subdued Road House With Patrick Swayze, the best version of the story about a bouncer who has an affair.

James Dalton (Swayze) is the best cooler in the business. “Cooler” is a more sophisticated term for “bouncer”. Based in New York, Dalton is hired to run security at Double Deuce, a seedy Missouri bar that lacks accountability and discipline. When Double Deuce begins to thrive, Dalton’s methods work. However, her defiance becomes a thorn in the side of local crime boss Brad Wesley (Ben Gazzara).

Is there a more male alpha than Dalton? Dalton taps his foot and calls names. He is not afraid of anyone, because if someone enters his space, he will literally rip your throat out. Dalton oozes charisma – he gets the job done and wins over the girl (Kelly Lynch). My only issue is with his preferred combat training: Tai Chi. I don’t know any thugs who stand outside shirtless practicing Tai Chi. The training works because it’s Swayze, but I doubt anyone working in Missouri’s bar scene follows the same principles.

Blood sport

An important film for Jean-Claude Van Damme

Sing along with me – Kumite, Kumite, Kumite. About 40 years removed Blood sportIt’s easy to say that Jean-Claude Van Damme will always be a star. This was not the case in the 1980s. After years of competing in martial arts and bodybuilding, he was trying to make it in Hollywood. 1985 years Don’t retreat, don’t give up It highlighted Van Damme’s potential, however Blood sport is the film that took his career to new heights.

Frank Dux (Van Damme) is an army captain and martial artist invited to an illegal Hong Kong fighting tournament known as Kumite. Dux agrees to compete, but he renounces his duties in the Army, forcing investigators to proceed with his arrest. His legal issues should be the least of Dux’s worries. Surviving the attack of the champion Chong Lee (Bolo Yeung) is his top priority.

Blood sport it’s pretty ridiculous at best. there are several scenes dedicated to Van Damme yells as he works on his splits. It’s funny looking back now. Even with smiles Blood sport The fight scenes are mesmerizing, especially those involving an epic villain like Chong Li. Some may classify Blood sport like a “good-bad movie” and I totally understand that line of thinking. It definitely verges on parody, but Van Damme’s athleticism and charisma always draw me in.

The man on fire

Denzel Washington is out for revenge

Denzel Washington is one of those rare actors who can be successful in multiple genres. He has a dramatic side that comes from his time on stage. This version of Washington – one Malcolm X, Philadelphiaand Inside Man– this is what he is most famous for. However, Washington could surpass his dramatic performances as an action hero. Give Washington a fight sequence and a weapon, and his charisma leaps off the screen like never before The man on fire.

John Creasy (Washington) is a former Marine who has lost the will to live. He drowns his guilt with alcohol and survives a suicide attempt. In search of work, Cressy becomes a bodyguard for Peeta (Dakota Fanning), the daughter of a wealthy Mexican car manufacturer. Creasy, his swim coach and pseudo father figure, inadvertently bonds with Peeta. When Peeta is kidnapped and held for ransom, Creasy opens up about his violent past and becomes a one-man killing machine as he tries to save his new friend.

You couldn’t ask for a better director of operations for Washington than the late Tony Scott. The offbeat pacing, affinity for violence, and emphasis on action over dialogue are key features that elevate Scott’s Washington performance. It makes me want to see what Washington would have done earlier in his career if he had worked in more action movies. Because it’s Washington, I have no doubt that these movies will happen certified classics.
