This weekend Netflixif you’re not watching (or finished). Something Very Bad Will Happen or Anaconda and if you’re looking for something unique, refreshing, or enlightening, allow me to kindly direct your attention to the list below.
For the second weekend of April, I recommend enjoying both seasons of one of the best live-action manga adaptations in recent memory. If that’s not your jam, I’ve also highlighted a wicked psychological drama starring Toni Collett and a great nature documentary series with a soothing story by David Attenborough.

One Piece
Count Gum-Gum 100% Rotten Tomatoes!!
Before Netflix, I was never familiar with Eiichiro Oda’s best-selling manga or anime series. adaptation to live action It reached the broadcaster in 2023. Live-action versions of manga, or even video games or other cartoons, can be overlooked (they usually are), but with their originality, fidelity, sense of fun, and great character adaptations, One Piece silenced the critics with a rowdy and unique series that I thought was a breather.
The hit season two is out (it scored 100% on Rotten Tomatoes), put on your straw hat and join the fun. One Piece follows the adventures of perpetually positive pirate Monkey D. Luffy (newcomer Iñaki Godoy), a sort of Mr. Fantastic-type character with rubbery limbs and a body stretched beyond belief. Luffy is in search of the legendary treasure known as One Piece, and finding it will make him King of the Pirates. But he can’t do it alone, so he gathers a crew of Straw Hats who become best friends – navigator Nami (Emily Rudd), swordsman Roronoa Zoro (Mackenue), storyteller Usopp (Jacob Romero Gibson) and donkey cook Sanji (Taz Skylar).
Recruiting new members along the way, the Straw Hats embark on a Grand Line adventure across the seas, avoiding both marines and brutal assassins, the crew of Baroque Works. One Piece it’s fun, quirky and a feast for the eyes that stays true to the source material. No wonder the second season has a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Roadless
Toni Collette is the leader of a hippie cult in this small-town thriller
If you like small-town conspiracy thrillers where evil plots simmer under everyone’s noses until you figure it out everyone it is in him Roadless is for you. Created by Canadian comedian and actor Mae Martin, it was inspired by the real-life experiences of a friend who was sent to an institution for “troubled teenagers”. Roadless It follows Abbie (Sidney Topliff), whose parents send her to Vermont’s Tall Pines Academy to straighten out her life. His rebellious best friend Leila (Alyvia Alyn Lind) senses something is wrong on the ground and follows him there, but also enters.
Inside, Abby and Leila begin to piece together the mysterious and manipulative ways of Evelyn (the show’s secret weapon, Toni Collette), the charismatic leader of Tall Pines, and the cult she has wrapped around the town. But the girls aren’t the only ones who suspect something strange is going on. Martin plays Alex Dempsey, a newly arrived transgender police officer whose wife is expecting their first child. Alex teams up with the girls to get to the bottom of the dark conspiracy before it takes over their families too.
Critics did not love Wayward gave it a 78% on Rotten Tomatoes, but they agreed that Collette and Martin’s performances were solid. Roadless it’s an easy weekend drink that you can finish in a few days.
