I know March Madness will be on everyone’s TV this weekend, and rightfully so, but if you’re not among the basketball fanatics or just want a break from all the craziness HBO Max and try one of our offers this weekend.
Each of the selections below is an Emmy winner and has a Rotten Tomatoes score in the 90% range (one is perfect). If you’ve been putting off watching Mike White’s masterpiece series of murder and sordid privilege in the world’s most beautiful resorts, now is the time. If you’re interested in amazing adult animation with a great story, there’s something for that here too. The latter is a slow-burning but twisting murder thriller starring Riz Ahmed.

White Lotus
It’s time to drink up this Emmy monster full of murder and exotic locales
I recently returned from a sun-soaked family trip at an all-inclusive resort in the Bahamas where, thankfully, there were no murders (that I know of, anyway). However, there were views Obscene Wealth and Privilege, which makes me think of Mike White’s dark and haunting black comedy anthology, White Lotus. If you haven’t already, all three seasons are on HBO Max to enjoy..
Each season is set in a different location of the titular chain of fictional luxury resorts, where a new group of wealthy guests arrive for a week of extravagant relaxation. As they live, their lives, dark secrets and even darker deeds begin to unravel. The first season takes place in Hawaii and follows unstable heiress Tanya McQuoid (Jennifer Coolidge), upstart hotel manager Armand (an excellent Murray Bartlett), disillusioned newlywed Rachel Patton (Alexandra Daddario) and the Mossbacher family. Each chapter opens with a brutal murder and then backtracks to reveal the story.
There are several reasons for this White Lotus Won 16 Primetime Emmys (an astounding 66 nominations). It’s edgy, sometimes uncomfortable, and features a revolving door of some of Hollywood’s best actors — season two goes to Sicily and brings Aubrey Plaza and Theo James, while season three is in Thailand and shines. FalloutWalton Goggins, Parker Posey and Michelle Monaghan. A fourth season has been confirmed and will reportedly take place in the south of France.

Scavengers rule
An amazing animated science fiction series set on a deadly alien planet
fans animation for adults series like blue eyed samurai, Primaryand Hidden Absolutely love the 10-episode sci-fi miniseries Scavengers ruleAn HBO Max original series that has been wowing critics since 2023 and has a perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes score. You could easily watch this entire series in one weekend, as I did, because its world-building is so compelling, visually stunning, and seemingly endless in its deadly weirdness (stoners will love it), you won’t be able to stop.
The Emmy Award-winning series follows the survivors of the deep space freighter Demeter 227, who are forced to abandon ship to save the ship on the planet Vesta. The five survivors are separated into three groups without contact – Demeter’s bearded commander Sam (Bob Stephenson) and young botanist Ursula (GLOWSunita Mani); aggressive Azi (Loki and GuiltyWunmi Mosaku) and her unruly robot Levi (Arrested DevelopmentAli Shaukat); and the increasingly shaky Kamen (Ted Travelstead). Scavengers rule It’s different from the series I’ve watched so far. It has a “something not right” feel to it Raised by wolvesLike beautifully terrifying animated creatures reminiscent of Studio Ghibli, they seek to kill, eat, transform and meddle with the Demeter’s crew as they struggle to return to their ship before it’s too late.
Unfortunately, there is no second season of the series in the works, but Netflix tried to revive it in 2024, and there may be a series. it was also broadcast there.

At night
Riz Ahmed and John Turturro handle this dark murder mystery
The sound of metal and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Actor Riz Ahmed was almost unrecognizable when he played Nasir “Naz” Khan in the five-time Emmy Award-winning HBO miniseries. At night. One of those Emmys, the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series statuette, was his for portraying a quiet college student in New York City who has a one-night stand filled with booze and drugs.
Keep in mind that Naz is a prime suspect – her blood and DNA are at the scene and the evidence is damning – but she can’t remember anything. Naz spends the rest of the series hardening up in a Rikers Island prison, while her lost, eczema-stricken defense attorney, John, takes on John Turturro, who was nominated for the role. The series is nail-biting as it bounces back and forth between John and detective Dennis Box (Bill Camp) on the outside, and Naz, who is taken under the wing of inmate Freddy. The Wirethe incredible Michael Kenneth Williams), does not bode well.
At night It’s a solid binge that will keep you guessing if Naz makes it or not. But it’s also a commentary on a broken legal system and how it can change people’s lives forever, for the worse, whether they’re guilty or innocent.
