Content creator Sean Dubs TVRegular Halo coverage recently took a closer look at Microsoft’s 2021 branding for Halo: The Endless.
At the time, many assumed it was related Halo Infinitepossibly as a campaign expansion title, but that never materialized. This is especially interesting Microsoft continued to fight to protect the trademark until April 2026indicating that it was meant for something else entirely.
For those unfamiliar with Halo lore, the Endless is a mysterious species introduced in Halo Infinite. Although little is known about them, some fans have speculated that they are related to the Precursors, an ancient race said to have created all life in the Halo universe.
What makes this especially interesting is the timing. Microsoft officially abandoned the trademark a few weeks ago News has surfaced that Halo Studios has canceled its multiplayer project, Project Ekur.
That doesn’t prove the events are connected, but it certainly raises questions about whether Halo: The Endless was part of a previous vision for the once-behind franchise.
Sean Dubs TV also revealed a little-known interview with Halo Studios head Pierre Hintze, who reflects on the lessons he learned from previous Halo games. Speaking about Halo 5, Hintze said:
“We chose to go in a different direction when it came to the story Where Master Chief isn’t the main character and backlash is inevitable, and for us there are certain things that we have to deliver in terms of the expectations of our players.“
Personally, I think Halo Studios may have learned the wrong lesson from Halo 5. It wasn’t just that players wanted more Master Chief, but the game was sold around him to shift the focus to Spartan Locke.
Bungie proved with Halo 3: ODST and Halo: reachWhile Ensemble Studios did the same with Halo Wars, Halo stories can succeed without the Master Chief if expectations are set right.
Hintze also talked about types of experiences he believes he will become more important in the game in the coming yearssaying:
“I think we’re going to see more immersive experiences where the line between playing with and playing against people becomes even more blurred… Yes, it’s incredibly rewarding if you go into a first person shooter and play one v one and win. But It’s also incredibly useful if you’re completing an objective or completing a raid in an MMO. and you see the solidarity and help and support we can lend each other.“
It’s worth noting that Hintze was answering a broader question about the future of gaming, not Halo specifically, and he never suggested that Halo become an MMO.
Nevertheless, the comments gained traction online, and when combined with Microsoft’s decision to abandon the Halo: The Endless trademark, they left fans wondering what direction Halo Studios is headed now.
Halo: Campaign Evolved is coming out soon, but I’m more than excited to find out what Halo Studios has planned for the future of the franchise. I’ve always felt that Halo is underutilized Xbox is now looking to invest more in its biggest franchiseshopefully we’ll eventually see the series branch out into more genres. who knows maybe even a canceled Mega Bloks game may come back one day.
Let me know what you want to see from Halo in the comments, and as always, don’t forget to take our poll!
