
After being a little overoptimistic about the pace and nature of electric vehicle adoption in the US, automakers now scale back their production plans. Tariffs and the elimination of federal EV incentives are largely to blame, though attempts by domestic OEMs to easily transition full-size truck customers to all-electric versions have stumbled thanks to a mix of lineup and towing concerns.
General Motors is well represented in the large electric vehicle segment with a mix of pickups and SUVs from Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC. But the plant that assembles them — Factory Zero in Hamtramck, Michigan — was down two weeks ago.
