Insider builds of Windows 11 in early April are a clear signal of where Microsoft wants the operating system to go next. Between UI improvements, new feature transitions, and deeper system integrations, these updates show the company is beefing up the experience ahead of bigger changes expected in 2026. Some of the improvements are subtle, others more ambitious, but they paint a picture of an OS that’s constantly evolving rather than standing together.
Here’s a closer look at seven changes insiders can test right now and what they portend for the coming months.

The biggest improvements from the Windows Insider Program in April 2026
These are the improvements that the software giant has rolled out since then my latest batch of changes.
1. Haptic feedback effects
Starting with build 26220.8148 and 26300.8155, Windows 11 adds haptic feedback effects to compatible devices for specific operations such as snapping a window, resizing it, and swiping over the close button.
You can always configure these settings Settings > Bluetooth and devices > Mouse > Touch alerts.
2. Xbox mode new name
First, the company previewed the Xbox Full Screen Experience, which turns your desktop into a console-like experience using the Xbox app and system tweaks to enhance the gaming experience.
In recent updates, an update has been received to improve the initial user experience when entering the mode. Also, and more importantly, Microsoft has now renamed the feature Xbox Full Screen Experience for Xbox mode.
3. Protected Print Mode changes
Windows Protect Print Mode doesn’t get any improvements on its own. Instead, the company is testing a new icon that will appear on a printer installed on your computer that supports the new printer drivers.
This change is now available in the Dev and Beta Channels.
4. Secure Boot certificate warnings
In the Windows Security program, the company recently released an update for the Secure Boot settings that show a green, yellow, or red icon indicating the current status of certificates that expire in June 2026.
For example, green icon indicates that the system is fully updated, so there is no need to worry about Secure Boot certificates.
The yellow indicates that an update is pending or limited due to compatibility issues.
The red icon means that new certificates cannot be applied and manual configuration is required.
These new messages are available on the site Windows Security > Device security > Secure BootAfter installing the latest preview build in Canary, Dev and Beta Channels.
5. Improvement of pen settings
Starting with builds 28020.1803 and 29560 from the Canary Channel, the development team updated the Pen settings page to allow you to set the tail button to launch the same program as the Copilot button.
You can find this new setting here Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Pen.
6. Touchpad new customization setting
On laptops, it is now possible to select the size of the right-click zone on the touchpad.
If you have a supported touchpad, the new option is available here Parameters > Bluetooth and Devices > Touchpad and options included default, small, mediumand big.
In addition, it should be noted that some manufacturers may offer their own customization for this. So, if your computer uses this customization, you will also see it “special” Go to Touchpad settings.
This setting was previously limited to the Dev and Beta Channels, but is now available in the Canary Channel with the release of builds 29560 and 28020.1803.
7. Contact Hub app update
Finally, the company recently released version 2.2604.101.0 of the Feedback Hub app in the Dev and Canary channels with some improvements.
In the latest update to the program, Microsoft shipped changes to the window behavior so that it has a consistent default startup experience. If you resize the window manually, the program will now remember its size.
You can now use the mouse back button when moving between pages to return to the previous page without using the application controls.
The restore button is now displayed correctly for Chinese and is improved accessibility.
Windows Central’s Take
Microsoft uses the beginning of April not to ship flashy features, but to improve the experience. These changes may seem small, but they’re still important because they reflect the company’s ongoing commitment to polishing the operating system.
The introduction of haptic feedback and the new touchpad customization emphasize input accuracy and touch interaction, especially in modern notebooks. At the same time, subtle interface tweaks like the updated Protected Print Mode icon and Contact Center improvements show the company’s focus on clarity and usability rather than just adding headline features.
Perhaps more importantly, changes such as Secure Boot certificate warnings indicate a greater focus on security transparency. Instead of hiding critical system states, the operating system begins to expose them in a way that is easier for everyday users to understand before problems arise.
It’s important to note that I’m not including details about upcoming changes Windows Insider Program and Windows Update settings, as they have not been officially released in any preview channel.
