My monitor is the most used screen in the house, so I do my best to reduce eye strain when using it. I’ve been using Flex for over a decade, and the app changes colors based on the time of day, switching to warm hues in the evenings.
When I’m gaming (which is pretty rare these days), I use Gunnar’s blue light blocking glasses. I became aware of this brand a decade and a half ago when I tested their glasses in college, where all-night Counter Strike marathons were the norm. Even though I no longer pull all-nighters, Gunnar’s glasses still make a noticeable difference.

The brand recently launched a collaboration and I got hold of the Fallout based Vault 33 glasses and they look incredible. The glasses are housed in a Vault-Tech Industries box and look like something you’d find in an abandoned bunker in Fallout 76.

As for the glasses, they have a retro-futuristic design with a stainless steel frame and the gunmetal frame with olive accented sides looks great. You also get the Vault-Tec logo on the sides and the glasses are comfortable to wear. At just 20g, they’re light enough that I don’t feel them while gaming, and the 52mm lens width is ideal for my use case. The Vault 33 glasses debuted last year for $99, but they’re available now on Amazon for $73.
If you’re not a fan of the design, Gunnar offers its lenses in a variety of styles and frames, starting at $37. I have used other Gunnar products in the past, but the Vault 33 products are my favorite because of their design.
Now the main reason for the glasses is the Gunnar lens; The amber lens blocks 65% of blue light at 450nm and there is a noticeable difference when using these glasses, especially during marathon gaming sessions. The glasses have a warm tint, and while this does affect color reproduction, it’s not to the point where it becomes a problem.

All Gunnar glasses come with +0.2 diopters that provide “clearer vision”, so that’s something to consider if you’re interested in these glasses. I don’t need prescription lenses (thankfully) and while I’m reluctant to use glasses that come with a slight power, this hasn’t proven to be a problem. I consulted an optometrist before using these glasses just to be on the safe side and I would suggest doing the same.
These glasses also come with Gunnar’s G-Shield Plus anti-reflective coating, which prevents smudges. Overall, the glasses are stylish, hold up well in everyday use and gaming, and the Fallout aesthetic is great in its own right.
If you have eye strain or have trouble using a monitor or any other screen for long periods of time, Gunnar’s glasses can make a difference.
