TL; DR
- Google’s expressive improvements to the Material 3 Keep continue with another floating action button redesign.
- Along with the larger size seen last month, the button also displays the text “Create Note” for a while.
- Unfortunately, this new button spoils the app’s aesthetics by taking up too much space and using an inappropriate font size.
Google tends to implement changes gradually rather than all at once. We’ve also seen this with Google Keep, the default notes app for Android. Although Google is the first Material 3 began to make expressive changes It’s still going strong, adding minor tweaks to the Notes app last July. The latest row is a change to the useful button in Save notes.
Google is now testing new floating action button (FAB) extensions It was discovered in the notes app Keep last month. While the FAB was already bigger when we last saw the change, it takes up even more space when you just open an app or scroll to the top of the notes. That’s because when you do this, the button expands and Google adds the text “Create Note” along with a (+) after you add it the first time. When you scroll down, the button collapses to a back (+) sign.
Another thing we noticed is how comical and absurd it looks. As you can see from the images above, the font for the FAB’s text is also noticeably larger than the text in the background notes.
Fortunately, these changes are not final and are currently only being tested on Google Keep with version 5.26.121.00.90. These are not yet available to the public, which means Google may change or fix them before making them available to users. Unfortunately, some users are already starting to notice the larger FAB we reported last month. This means that Google can do this against our wishes.
