After 13 years with iPhone, I’m finally switching to Android

I have been an iPhone user since the iPhone 5c and Switch to Android was never part of the plan – not even in my wildest dreams. I was deeply invested in Apple’s ecosystem and loved it. It was an experience where everything just clicked, especially features like AirDrop that made it easy to move files between my devices.

But beyond that, the perfect experience started to feel a little less perfect. I began to see a pattern. iPhones have had a habit of adapting features that Android has had for years, and that habit has become hard to ignore. That’s when curiosity got the best of me and I started using several Android phones. Somewhere along the way, I realized that I was getting more than I bargained for with my Android phones.

Then came the moment that sealed it for me. The latest Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy phones have finally cracked something that has seemed impossible for years: seamless file transfers between Android and iOS via Quick Share. This was the last issue that tied me to Apple, and once it was cracked, it was my biggest reason to stay. For the first time in years, the transition didn’t require a second thought.

Usage Fast Sharing Sharing files with Apple devices is surprisingly simple, but there’s one thing to keep in mind—this feature is still pretty new, so it’s not yet widespread. For now, you’ll need one of the latest Android flagships to use it, such as phones from the Galaxy S26 and Pixel 10 series. Here’s a quick look at how it works:

When I first tried to do this on Android, to be honest – it wasn’t great. File transfers were noticeably slower, often taking longer than I expected, especially for videos.

But that has completely changed now. Today, it works as smoothly as it does on Apple devices. since I am using Galaxy S26 With the MacBook Air M2 as my daily driver, sharing files between the two was easy.

My use case is quite simple and focused on daily tasks. I usually write my articles on my MacBook, which means I often have to quickly send photos and screenshots from my phone. Previously, this involved extra steps like uploading everything to Google Drive.

I took a lot of photos and videos on the Galaxy S26, mostly because I didn’t want to rely on the iPhone 17, which doesn’t have a phone camera. After shooting over 20 files, it took seconds to transfer them to the MacBook for editing. What used to seem like a chore is now no hassle and I don’t think twice about it anymore.

It also made me realize how much I conformed to the limitations without questioning them. For example, I carried a Lightning cable everywhere because I knew that forgetting it would make my iPhone survive the day. At that time, this kind of addiction seemed completely normal. In retrospect, it shouldn’t have been.

And this is where things started to change for me. Features like the T9 dial and even the high refresh rate displays on the vanilla models arrived much later than they should have. I mean, just look at the iPhone 17e. It still offers a minimum of $599 – for example, a single rear camera and a 60Hz display. It makes one wonder why something so simple has taken so long when it is already widely available elsewhere. I guess I always knew I wanted more, but the familiarity and comfort of Apple’s ecosystem kept me from making the switch.

Now that has changed. I don’t want to feel limited by the phone anymore. I want something that adapts to me, not the other way around. With features like split-screen, multitasking, and sheer flexibility, Android showed me what I’d been missing all these years. Once the file sharing restriction stopped, the decision became easier.

The fact that this last piece fell into place was enough to change me completely. After more than a decade with an iPhone, it just took a switch to realize — I wasn’t committed, I was just comfortable. But not anymore.
