We’re almost a week away from the Apple Glowtime event that finally lifted the lid iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro models and many wondered how much RAM each device had.
This is perhaps even more interesting this year, as Apple has previously mentioned a certain RAM threshold that the iPhone 16 can run on Apple Intelligence While an iPhone 15 may not be possible, a new interview with Apple’s Senior Vice President of Hardware Technology, Johny Srougee, confirmed the amount in each of the new phones.
Geekerwan spoke to Srouji (thanks 9to5Mac), he explained the reason behind packing 8GB of RAM on all iPhone 16 models.

“Our goal is to build the best products and deliver the absolute best user experience. As it relates to Apple Intelligence, DRAM is one aspect. And when we look at what we’re building, whether it’s silicon, whether it’s hardware, whether it’s software, we don’t want to be wasteful in many ways,” explains Srouji.
“We have a lot of data that tells us what will enable a certain feature, and Apple Intelligence is one of the very important features that we want to enable.”
“And we look at different configurations for both compute and memory bandwidth and memory capacity. And then we actually make the right trade-offs and balances of what makes the most sense. So Apple Intelligence was the key feature that led us to believe that we should get to 8GB.”
Srouji also mentions how 8GB of RAM will help other aspects of the iPhone experience, including “high-end, AAA-titled games.”
He also extolled the virtues of Apple’s productivity cores, pointing to single-threaded performance across Apple’s lineup.
“When you look at the single-threaded performance core of all our silicon, it’s the absolute best in the industry. We’re leading the industry. If you look at the efficiency cores, likewise, we’re the absolute best. We’re the leader in a big way.”
