Although The Elder Scrolls developer Bethesda Game Studios worked as a shepherd Fallout The game, often regarded as the franchise’s best since the company acquired the series from Interplay Entertainment in 2007, is ironically not a game developed by Bethesda at all.
This is the title Fallout: New VegasA 2010 entry made by storied RPG studio Obsidian Entertainment during the gap between Bethesda’s 2008 release. Fallout 3 and its direct sequel, 2015 Fallout 4 (among them, he made a small game called Skyrim heard of).

But while Lobe said he felt it was “a little unfair that we were judged for the lack of a storyline,” he revealed that he still enjoyed and respected New Vegas, believed Obsidian did a great job with the RPG, and even wished Fallout 3’s story and writing had similar depth and nuance.
“But still…Obsidian killed it. I think they did a great job, and I’m a little sad that our design team couldn’t have the same imagination—maybe they just didn’t have the time or the breadth. They didn’t do it on the same scale that was really ambitious, like ‘big arc, lots of choices.'”
When Lobe polled some of the other developers on the podcast, former Bethesda artist Nate Purkeypile said he liked New Vegas a lot, but thought it tripped some up with the dungeons and world design.
“I think Vegas is a really good game, but it’s also screwing things up. I think its dungeons and world design aren’t that good,” he said. “So from a writing and design standpoint, I think they did a better job, but I don’t feel the same way about their dungeons.”
However, Lobe brought up another valuable point: Obsidian had to develop New Vegas in a very short period of time, only 18 months. “We also have to say that they had a limited window of time to work in. They were very pressed for time – an unfair amount of time, to be honest.”
I love New Vegas to pieces, but it’s true that Bethesda’s work on the foundation Obsidian built on is becoming unrecognizable, and it shouldn’t. However, Fallout 3 was also incredibly well received.
Ultimately, both games are fantastic RPGs, so I’m dying to play them the upcoming Fallout 3 and New Vegas remasters that we know are coming. Haven’t checked out the games yet? Every Fallout title is playable on Xbox and PC Xbox Game Pass.
