OpenAI on Thursday announced something power users have been asking for forever: a $100-a-month plan. Cost of plans so far: free (now includes ads)$8/month Go plan (which includes ads), $20/month Plus plan (ad-free), and then up to $200 Pro plan (also ad-free).
OpenAIs pricing plan page currently does not list the $200 per month plan at all. However, the highest level is still available, OpenAI confirmed to TechCrunch.
Plus (which remains at $20 per month) and the new $100 Pro tier are designed to support everyday use of ChatGPT’s coding tool Codex, the model maker says. The $100 Pro plan will offer 5x more Codex than the Plus plan.
OpenAI makes no bones about challenging Anthropic, a $100/month option for Claude at this new pricing level.
An OpenAI spokesperson told TechCrunch: “The new $100 Pro Tier is designed to give developers more practical coding capability for the money, especially during high-intensity work sessions where constraints are more important. Compared to Codex Codex, Codex offers more coding capability per dollar at paid tiers, with the difference most apparent during active coding usage.”
Something to know: OpenAI is offering higher Codex limits on the $100 plan until May 31st. So anyone who tries a new level goes relatively crazy with coding and never gets a rate warning: Note that this won’t last long.
None of the plans offer unlimited usage. The $200 plan offers 20x higher limits than Plus. It’s enough to support “your most demanding workflows consistently, even with parallel projects,” the model maker promises in its FAQ. Both Pro plans offer the same basic features. The main difference is the rate limits, the company says.

The spokesperson also says that more than 3 million people around the world use Codex every week, which has “increased 5-fold in the last three months, with usage increasing by more than 70% month-on-month.”
