Galaxy Z Fold ‘Wide’ size shown in One UI 9 leaks

Previous leaks have hinted at Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold “Wide,” though recent One UI 9 screenshots add more evidence that the company is trying to get a more substantial fold without adding more hinges.

Available via leaked One UI 9 screenshots SamMobilenotes that the images are taken from the firmware for the Galaxy Z Fold “Wide” model. This firmware for the SM-F971B comes from the unreleased One UI 9, which is expected to debut around the same time Samsung plans to release new foldable devices.

The images show a very simple layout, likely the same as the settings menu provided by Samsung on their tutorial pages. In that shot, the main screen appears in a 4:3 ratio. That’s wider than the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s nearly 1:1 design.

Now, it’s not quite as spacious as the Galaxy Z TriFold, but it comes close without begging for more hardware and points of failure. Previous leaks Note that the phone will fit a 123.9 x 161.4 x 4.9 mm profile. Comparatively, that’s about 34mm shorter than the expected Galaxy Z Fold 8. As for the width, it is about 18.2 mm wider.

The wider design fits firmly into the Google Pixel Fold or Oppo Find N2 category. This short and sturdy design is a little easier to handle on a daily basis than the taller, more unsteady foldables that seem to flood the market. The caveat here is that it tends to scale for apps that aren’t optimized for larger screens.

There’s still no official word on what Samsung plans to launch next, but it could be the first time a model other than the standard Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip series is launched.
