Pop culture has increasingly become problematic and controversial projects thanks to something (or someone) that was once beloved and then went wrong behind the scenes. Fans then have to decide if they want to continue paying attention. Good OmensThe popular Prime Video series starring David Tennant and Michael Sheen as a star-crossed demon and angel who cause trouble on Earth is the latest example.
Complicating matters further, Good Omens occupies a bit of a gray area. Neil Gaimanwas very practical in the first and second seasons, withdrew from the play Based on the book he co-wrote with the late Terry Pratchett following allegations of sexual abuse (which Gaiman denied) was revealed. “Season three”? “New season”? If Prime Video had decided that Gaiman was out, maybe he could have found a way to make the full finale. Good Omens after all?
No. Nothing has changed. Prime Video confirmed to io9 that previous reports have stopped and Good Omens season three is still a single 90-minute episode.
considering Sheen said in June 2025 he wasn’t sure the special would ever be released (“I don’t really know what’s going to happen with it…Tennant and I) we’re both relieved to have finished the story, but it’s in a really difficult, complicated, disturbing context. I hope people see it, but it’s largely out of our control”), we should probably suggest that.
Of course, whether people will actually want to watch it remains to be seen. Will you be able to put the controversy aside and tune in to see what happens with Crowley and Aziraphale’s cosmic romance? Or is the permanent Gaiman factor too ick?
