Indie App Spotlight: ‘Kiosk 27’ makes your iPhone camera feel like a movie

you are welcome Indie App Spotlight. This is a weekly 9to5Mac series where we showcase the latest apps in the world of indie apps. If you’re a developer and want your app featured, get it in contact.

iPhone cameras have come a long way over the years, but if you’re after a more premium, filmy look versus today’s computational photography, Pavilion 27 may be a fun fit for you.

Highlights

First of all, Pavilion 27 uses sensor-RAW processing. It’s not just a filter slapped on top of your normal camera output. This gives it a very realistic feeling look. The developer has 20+ years of experience in the field of analog photography and enhances the reality of it all.

It also offers all the features you’d expect in a camera app, such as a timer, flash, and focus lock. In addition, there are some things to enhance the movie experience, including a date stamp, a fog effect, and the ability to adjust the appearance of your movie to grain and bloom.

As you would experience with film, the app first takes a negative image and then displays the positive image on the device. Also like film, you have a limited film roll – 27 shots. Obviously, everything is still digital, so you can get away with that, but it’s a nice limitation that draws attention to your shot. I personally love this level of focus, and it’s part of why I love filmmaking in the first place.

Finally, Pavilion 27 also offers a home screen widget so you can track your current roll. I really love how the photos look in my tests, so you should give it a try! Frankly, the only thing I’d like to see is Camera Control support – at least to launch the app.

Download the program

Pavilion 27 available on the website App Store for $12.99. Once you buy it, there are no ads, in-app purchases, or subscriptions – it’s just a one-time purchase. You need an iPhone running iOS 18.6 or later.
