The next step in Netflix’s gaming expansion is a new app designed for young kids, where you can let them play freely without security concerns around content or ads, or the risk of extra purchases being charged to your credit card.
The new app, called Netflix Playground, is included with all of the streamer’s subscription levels and is now available for both Android and iOS. It allows young children to play many games based around popular franchises they have seen on Netflix before.
The playground is designed for children ages eight and younger, and the brand says it’s “packed with enriching experiences designed to spark creativity, laughter and fun with your kids’ favorite characters.”
It’s not just mobile games; it also includes interactive elements such as virtual puzzles, coloring pages and sticker book collections.
The games are the subject of popular shows including Bad Dinosaurs, Peppa Pig, Sesame Street and Storybots. Red Fish, Blue Fish, Horton! and various Dr. like Sneetches. There are also Seuss properties.
The brand said it expects more later this year, including Gabby’s Dollhouse, KPop Demon Hunters, PJ Masks, My Little Pony and Paw Patrol. If Netflix launches any other kid-friendly franchises, you may see related games appear on the playground.
If you don’t like your kids interacting with specific Netflix properties, Playground still doesn’t offer regulatory controls to limit what your child can play. For example, if you think your child isn’t ready for KPop Demon Hunters, you may need to closely monitor your child’s use of Playground.
