Dig out your old iPod and fire up your “Songs to Cry” playlist, I come with sad news. After more than 15 years covering all things Apple, it is with a heavy heart that I announce that we will no longer be publishing new content on iMore.
I want to start by thanking all of you for your support over the years and throughout the site’s incarnation. Whether you were a first-time adopter back in the PhoneDifferent days, discovered The iPhone Blog, or just recently started reading to learn what Apple Vision Pro is all about, it’s been a privilege to bring you a daily slice of Apple cake.
After the first iPhone in 2008, it’s only fitting that we wrap up the publication here in 2024, just in time for the launch of an industry-changing new technology from Apple in the form of Apple Intelligence, a device that changed the game not just for Apple, but for the world at large. Just as Apple wasn’t the first company to make a smartphone, it’s not the first to test the waters of artificial intelligence – but just as the iPhone took the world by storm, Apple Intelligence could reshape how we interact with technology for years to come.
It’s a reminder that the world of technology never stands still: the term “artificial intelligence” was the stock of science fiction in the early days of the iPhone. The world of publishing is constantly evolving, as are the forms of tech journalism that try to shed light on the industry. iMore is leaving the scene at an important crossroads for online publishing, where the battle for readers’ time and attention is more demanding than ever, and where the aforementioned advances in artificial intelligence and search discovery techniques are making the playing field even more challenging. While it’s been a pleasure to serve such a passionate readership over the years, it’s time to pass the baton to new writers, new sites, and new formats.
I’d like to take this moment to thank everyone in the iMore community, past and present, for the support and passion we’ve built over the years. Big thanks to previous leaders of iMore, Lory Gil, Serenity Caldwell and Joe Keller, and of course to the inimitable Rene Ritchie, who created this miracle all those years ago. I hope we made you all proud.
I’d like to give a special shout out to the final iMore team I’ve worked with most closely and had the honor of leading over the last few years: Stephen, Tammy, John-Anthony, Daryl and James, as well as our many regular contributors – thanks for putting a smile on my face every day. I can’t wait to see what you all do next.
iMore will remain online so readers can continue to access articles from the archive and forum https://forums.imore.com/ will remain active until November 1 to serve our community. Our sister sites TechRadar.com and TomsGuide.com will also continue to publish all the latest news, reviews and more from the world of Apple-based computing, while our friends at WindowsCentral.com and AndroidCentral.com are privileged to continue serving you the cutting edge news, reviews and features to bring you the latest technology and latest innovations from the other side of Microsoft.
Now’s the time to hang up those Watch rings, plug Siri, and drink some water The iBeer app last time. Thank you for allowing us to think differently all these years. We’ll see you in the glorious iCloud backup in the sky.
-Gerald and the iMore team
