do you remember Suffering A movie from 2005 based on id Software’s first three games? If not, remember, Rosamund Pike definitely does, and not in a particularly positive way.
Pike recently starred in Elizabeth Day’s How to fail podcast, where he talked about his brief foray into action movies after filming Pride and Prejudice. She had some experience when she was Miranda Frost in 2002 Another Die day, however Suffering the film could mark a potential turning point, which he says was a huge wake-up call. The film, starring Sam Grimm (Karl Urban’s Son’s Sister), made him realize “how ill-equipped I was to be an action star.”
“I was out of my comfort zone, out of my league, out of my depth, and the movie was an absolute bomb,” Pike said. He called the film “probably one of the worst movies ever made” and said it “could have ended my career. (…) I don’t read reviews, but you feel lucky to have survived it.” Yoh, but it wasn’t exactly an unpopular opinion: at the time, the film received extremely negative reviews and was a box office bomb. It’s also not his first comment about the film since 2021 he kicked himself a bit to not know the games before accepting the role.
The good news is that Suffering it didn’t kill his career (or anyone’s) and he even started up again The wheel of time. (RIP.) Meanwhile, id revived Suffering Games with latest game launch in 2025. But we probably shouldn’t expect the studio to tackle another adaptation anytime soon, if one ever does.
