
This is for the 90s kids: KA Applegate Animorphs books finally getting a new TV show courtesy of Disney+.
In the executive producer chair is Ryan Coogler through his Proximity Media banner. Per Diversitydevelops early with the show The New Testament writer Bryan Wolcott is on hand to write and executive produce. After Nickelodeon a two-season adaptationHollywood has turned its eyes to adapting it again 2020 as a feature film. Those plans were eventually shelved, making way for this new show. Neither Applegate nor co-creator (and husband) Michael Grant were involved in that film or Nick’s show, and it’s unclear if they will be involved here.
First released in 1996, Animorphs focuses on five teenagers who gain the ability to transform into any animal they touch. They use their powers to prevent a parasitic mind-controlling alien race called the Yeerks from taking over Earth. Applegate and Grant told the story for 54 books until the series ended in 2001, and it was known for being pretty good, pretty weird and dark, and for the beautiful cover art showing the transformation process. Scholastic adapts books for graphic novels with its sixth book, catch, released last year.
with animorphs, Disney continues to gradually bring children’s books from the 90s and 00s to television. The third season Percy Jackson It’s coming in 2026 and there’s also a TV show Eragon in business too. what next Artemis Fo– oh, right.
