AirDrop is being tested on the Samsung Galaxy S26 series
I tested it with Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra, iPhone 17 Pro and MacBook Pro M1. After updating to the latest OS and following the steps above, including changing my iPhone and MacBook AirDrop settings to “Everyone”, I tried sending various files. I started with a small photo.
The aforementioned pop-up confirms sharing with the iPhone and warns that the phone may temporarily disconnect from my Wi-Fi network while doing so. The transfer usually only takes a few seconds, so if it does, it won’t be noticeable. However, it should be noted that if you are transferring many large files, it may take longer.
(Note that this means you won’t be able to share with Apple devices if your mobile hotspot is enabled, and the phone will notify you in this case.)
It worked instantly, just like it did from one Apple device to another. A pop-up appears indicating that the Galaxy S26 Ultra wants to share a photo and offers me the option to Accept or Decline. After I clicked accept, the photo arrived and was added to my Recently Saved album. I then tried with multiple photos and it went through without a problem, although it took a little longer when sending larger files, as it does with Apple devices. It was the same with the 1.5 minute video file.
The process worked fine from a Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra to a MacBook Pro, the popup allowed me to Accept or Decline, and if accepted, select Open in Downloads or Save in Photos. And of course it works when sending files from Apple devices to a Galaxy S26 (or the latest Pixel devices), these devices appear in the AirDrop stream.
As someone who often takes photos from Android phones for articles and then edits them on a MacBook, this feature is invaluable. All screenshots taken from the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra and used in this article were AirDropped on a MacBook Pro for editing in Photoshop, for example. Previously, I had to upload images to Google Drive and download them from my computer as a zip file, then unzip them into Photoshop. This eliminates a few extra steps, making the process even more seamless.
Why this feature is a game changer
This feature bridges the two worlds of Apple and Android, making sharing content simple no matter which OS you use. Imagine you are sitting at the dinner table with friends. A person hands over their phone to the office to take a group photo, then opens an email or instant messaging thread to send the photo to everyone.
In fact, it happened to me recently at a business event that someone took a photo and had to send the photo to us separately via WhatsApp because one had an iPhone and the other had an Android device. He didn’t have a person uploaded to WhatsApp, which took a few extra steps to add him. A quick AirDrop tap for both of us would have made it faster.
as RCS messagingAirDrop on Android devices like the Samsung Galaxy S26 series, as well as compatible Google Pixel devices, is another solution to compatibility issues plaguing the industry. We can probably expect this feature to come to more Android devices in the future. For now, this is another reason why the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra is in this lineup best android phones.
Make a connection
One of the latest and greatest features of the new flagship Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra smartphone is the ability to AirDrop files from the device to a compatible Apple device, including the iPhone, iPad and MacBook, bridging the worlds of Android and Apple.
