remember LG Rollable? It was the much-anticipated rollable phone that LG sold at CES 2021 before the company made a decision. exit the smartphone industry. It would probably be the first (and at this point in 2026 only) a rollable phone commercially available to consumers.

Tearing down the LG Rollable reveals all
Hands-on experience with the LG Rollable shows Nelson extending and retracting its display, which makes a whimsical sound over the fairly loud motor underneath. The software intelligently adjusts based on the display state, even when watching videos, which will grow when the display is expanded. Meanwhile, when the phone is folded back, the back of the phone reveals a useful section of the active display, which can be used to show widgets and even take selfies with the main dual cameras.
Nelson points out the zipper-like connections that are responsible for holding everything together along the curve of the device, while also showing how powerful the motors are by having the phone push elements like a large book. In the end, these are the things we want to see, and Nelson disassembles the phone and begins to carefully work.

What’s revealed is a unique internal structure consisting of three spring-loaded mechanical arms that help keep the screen unified when extended or retracted and clamped to the inner frame when not in use. At the same time, the dual motors above propel the internal structure along the rails, with Nelson calling the phone “extremely engineered” while still marveling at its innovation.
Other features include a 64-megapixel primary sensor, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide sensor, and a 4,500mAh battery. Galaxy Z Fold 7 jealous There’s also a rear fingerprint sensor that doubles as the power button, something I wish was still more common on smartphones.

Other companies have demonstrated rollable conceptsbut none came close to launching one like LG, instead focused on folding phones. Still, it would be interesting to see how different it could be if rollable phones re-enter the scene in 2021, giving consumers an alternative form factor to choose from.
