For business owners, they should rush to their computers to install the latest Surface Pro 11 software update. Not urgently to improve security, but to get rid of annoying bugs that plague Surface Pro 11 for Business right after the device is turned on.
The March 2026 software update for Surface Pro 11 for Business addresses an issue that could cause the Slim Pen 2 to ink while swiping and a separate issue that could cause finger touches to be inaccurate. The update also fixed an issue that could cause the screen to stop responding to touch after the device is idle or asleep.

- Write and draw smoothly with your pen. Where we solved the problems Surface Slim Pen 2 inks when scrolling, loses tracking at low pen pressure settings, delays inking after you set pressure, or uses inaccurate pressure levels.
- Get seamless touchscreen functionality. We fixed an issue where finger touches on the screen were not accurate and fixed issues with the touchscreen not responding when the device is idle or after waking from sleep.
- Performance and Usability:
The problems are limited to the Surface Pro 11 for Business equipped with an Intel processor. Surface update history only lists revisions under the Business category.
This coincides with the complaints made Tech Community post last year:
“When using the Surface Slim Pen 2, the device starts recording ink input while the pen is still a few millimeters above the screen. It requires no physical contact or pressure.
This “hover-inking” renders handwriting completely useless. As I write, every time I lift the pen to start a new letter or stroke, the pen continues to draw a line in the air as it moves to its next position. This results in messy, patchy handwriting with unwanted ‘tails’ and completely defeats the purpose of having a premium inking device.”
The user who reported the problem ran several tests to ensure that the unit was not defective. They also tried a clean install of Windows via a Windows Recovery Image, ensured drivers and software were up to date, and ran the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit.
They even shared the video of the issue. Their dedication to validating this issue is impressive, but I doubt a compliment from me will make them feel any better.
Months after this article was published, Microsoft fixed the problem with a software update.

Several people responded to that Tech Community post confirming that they were experiencing the same issue. These comments also indicate that the Surface Pro 11 for Business is affected.
A separate post It discusses a similar issue from April 2023, although the Surface Pro 11 first shipped in 2024 and the Business model came out in 2025.
Apparently, the Surface Slim Pen 2 has had issues for quite some time.
