What you need to know
- The Galaxy Z Flip 8 could be 0.5mm thinner than the Flip 7 when folded, a new leak says.
- Screen sizes may remain the same: a 6.9-inch inner screen and a 4.1-inch cover screen.
- While the shell looks the same, the real improvements like the Snapdragon processor and AI features remain hidden.
Fresh renderings Galaxy Z Flip 8 finally landed courtesy of a partnership with OnLeaks MyMobiles. If you’re hoping for a major redesign, you may struggle to see any changes.
According to 5K CAD renderings shared by sources, the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 8 may look almost identical to its predecessor at first glance. While this may seem boring, there is a small but important change: Samsung is making it thinner.
The leak says the Galaxy Z Flip 8 will be slightly thinner than that Z Flip 7. It measures 166.8 x 75.4 x 6.6 mm when unfolded and 85.4 x 75.4 x 13.2 mm when folded. By comparison, the Flip 7 was 85.5 x 75.2 x 13.7mm when closed, so the main difference is that the new one is about half a millimeter thinner when folded.

Both screens are the same as before: a 6.9-inch foldable display inside and a 4.1-inch flip screen. Dual rear cameras and LED flash are also in the same place. From the outside, it still looks like the Flip 7.

Why can Samsung play it safe?
Foldable phones are still being developed, but they are no longer experimental. Samsung has spent years making them tougher, improving the hinges and fine-tuning the software. Now it seems the plan is to keep improving what works rather than making major changes.
A thinner phone can be easier to carry and feel better in your hand, which is more important than having better features. This suggests that Samsung may be saving bigger improvements for things like battery life, processor speed, or new AI features.
Note that the CAD leak is not final. Small design details may still change before the phone is launched. Still, these initial images are close to what we’ve seen in general.
Also, the CAD leaks only show the phone’s size and shape. They do not tell us about processor or software features. So there might be surprises like a stronger hinge, a faster processor or better cameras. However, an earlier rumor suggested Samsung’s next foldable clamshell 2026 may not see a battery upgrade.
Samsung is expected to unveil the Flip 8, Fold 8 and Fold 8 Wide at the Galaxy Unpacked event in London in July 2026.
Android Central’s Take
A thinner, more pocket-friendly phone is something I’d notice every day, more so than a high-end tech update. Still, I feel like Samsung is being a bit cautious. If I’m going to upgrade, I want at least a real “okay, this is new” moment, not just “hey, it’s a little thinner.”
