The latest Pixel Watch update is causing some hiccups, as users are now reporting that their smartphones are seeing strange behavior in their Fitbit step counts and other stats.
Google started rolling out the March 2026 update for the Pixel Watch a few weeks ago, and since then it’s been causing issues with health tracking stats on Fitbit. At first it was clear that there were some problems skin temperature and SpO2 readingsthis went away for some after the update, but it seems to affect other stats as well.
A number of Pixel Watch owners On Reddit informed about last week or Fitbit has problems with step counting as well as some other statistics. We see the Pixel Watch counting steps, in some cases doubling the numbers in both steps and other stats like mileage.
Another affected stat it seems should be calories burned, which is similarly inflated for affected users with minimal actual activity.
It’s not clear why, but it’s a pretty big deal for anyone using the Pixel Watch to track activity. While smartwatches should never be used to get accurate health information, they are great for spotting trends and tracking your progress when trying to increase activity.
Update 3/20: This appears to be a server-side/app-side issue with Fitbit, not an issue with the latest Pixel Watch update. We’re seeing this behavior on the Pixel Watch 4 in the December 2025 update, and the same experience is being echoed by many Pixel Watch owners in our comments section.
Google has not yet acknowledged the issue, but we hope that future software updates will provide a solution.
