Have you ever enjoyed a movie, a game, or even just scrolling through Instagram videos?
Whether it’s the club scene in the latest John Wick movie or any power-up scene in anime, flashing lights can do a lot of damage and even risk catching someone if it’s bad enough. Thankfully, Samsung’s latest phones have a built-in feature that dims the screen when it detects flashing lights.

Even if you are not prone to epileptic seizures, strobing lights can be quite disturbing. Samsung doesn’t mention this “dark strobing” feature for epilepsy protection, so the feature is primarily intended for convenience rather than correcting a medical condition.
The “End strobing” setting also does not respond to the relatively low frequency of the phone PWM dimming or change in any way. If you’re sensitive to PWM dimming or LED flickering, you’ll need to buy a phone with a higher PWM rate. OnePlus 15.
It’s also worth noting that Samsung’s “dark strobing” feature only works in a select few apps. Samsung doesn’t provide a list of supported apps, and so far in my tests only YouTube turns off when the phone detects strobing. Instagram and TikTok I didn’t fade out when I shot a heavy strobing video, and I couldn’t find any movies on Netflix, Peacock, or the Google TV app that had enough strobing to trigger the feature.
Even with a limited number of suitable applications, this feature can be very useful in eliminating the discomfort that comes with dimming lights. How to activate it:
1. Open system settings by selecting settings from the app drawer or by swiping down on the right side of the status bar and tapping the gear icon at the top right.
2. Scroll down and select Accessibility.
3. choose Vision Enhancements from the list.
4. Scroll halfway down the list and tap the switch slider next to it Weak strobing.
While you’re still in the accessibility options, there are a few more settings that allow you to make the screen as comfortable as possible. If you’re like me and find the Galaxy S26 Ultra (or any) in general Samsung phones) the display is very bright, enabling “Extra dark” can make a big difference.
Added additional blur Android 16 to include a customizable power slider, you can keep it at a brighter setting during the day and turn it down at night for greater comfort. This reduces the peak brightness of the display without adjusting the pulse width of the dimming cycle and dims it properly without making it worse.
In my tests, enabling Extra Dim reduced peak brightness by 80%, and enabling Privacy Screen reduced it by a further 74%. These two features alone can make the phone infinitely more convenient for anyone who finds the phone too flashy, and they’re super easy to activate too!
1. Open system settings by selecting settings from the app drawer or by swiping down on the right side of the status bar and tapping the gear icon at the top right.
2. Scroll down and select Accessibility.
3. choose Vision Enhancements from the list.
4. Scroll halfway down the list and tap the words Additional Dim.
5. Tap the switch next to it Activethen adjust the slider to your liking.
6. Tap the switch next to it Additional Dim Shortcut to add the Extra Dim switch to your quick settings.
Now that Extra Dim and the shortcut are both enabled, it’s time to customize your quick settings to make it easier to turn it on and off.
1. Swipe down on the right side of your status bar Open the Quick Toggles menu. The status bar is at the top and includes icons and a clock.
2. hit pencil icon to edit buttons.
3. hit Add control at the bottom of the screen.
4. Scroll down to view and be sure Privacy Screen button is activated.
5. Scroll down to the Accessibility option and tap Additional Dim icon button to activate it.
6. Go back and Drag the Extra Dim and Privacy Display buttons wherever you want them in your quick access menu. You can do this by long pressing the icon and dragging it.
Now, whenever you want to enable (or disable) any of these features, pull down your status bar and tap the buttons. If you ever want to configure any of these features without sorting through the settings again, you can simply long press the buttons and it will take you to that settings section to configure the Privacy Screen or Extra Dim option. Now you can enjoy your phone again at night!
