You may remember that a few days ago I covered a movie release The original Xbox emulator on Android.
Now, at a strange time, the developers have released one Xbox 360 Emulator for iOS and Mac.
Article continues below
What is XeniOS and how does it work?
Genius is an experimental emulator designed to allow users to play Xbox 360 games directly on their iPhone, iPad or Mac. It is based on what is available Ksenia It’s an emulator for Windows, but this fork of the project focuses specifically on the Apple ecosystem.
It’s an ambitious goal, and it’s still unclear how far the project can realistically go. According to the project documentsXeniOS relies on the JIT to execute translated game code, allowing Xbox 360 software to run on Apple hardware.
Although Apple now allows some emulators in the App Store, XeniOS still needs to be sideloaded. This is because it requires a JIT to run games, which Apple usually limits for security reasons.
Mass scream Retro Spirit also. They were the first to upload a guide and proper playtest on YouTube, so be sure to check them out if you enjoy retro-focused content.
If you want to try it out for yourself, Retro Spirit’s tutorial is below:
As I mentioned when I covered the Original Xbox emulator on Android, the emulators themselves are legit. The issue is usually how people get the games, so if you try this yourself, you should only use copies of games that you legally own.
As the project is still in alpha stage, compatibility is still very limited. The documentation warns users to expect crashes, bugs, and major differences between games as development continues.
It seems more stable than the Original Xbox emulator for Android that I covered recently. There are already several posts demonstrating the emulator r/EmulationOniOSthis is a promising start for something that just entered alpha.
🗨️ Are you excited about Xbox 360 emulation on iOS?
Imitation has certainly come a long way, and honestly, it’s an evolution I never expected to see.
However, I’d love to hear your thoughts on emulation in general. Thinking of trying an Xbox 360 emulator on iOS, or does it seem like a step too far?
