A story game developer Blizzard Entertainment did not happen officially 2023 has announced the next game it’s working on after the action RPG Diablo 4but it has long been rumored to be a new entry in the dormant dark sci-fi series. StarCraft. Every installment in the franchise so far has been a real-time strategy (RTS) title, but this new game is said to be a shooter – something that a new job listing at the studio supports.
Indeed, Blizzard hires lead designer for ‘future AAA open-world shooter’ It sounds like it could be very good StarCraft FPS that we’ve heard about occasionally in recent years. The listing reveals very little about the game, though does It says the developer is looking for someone with “proven experience working with the Unreal Engine,” suggesting the game will use it.

Blizzard doesn’t exist yet confirmed there’s a new StarCraft FPS on the way, this new job listing is pretty big proof that it’s out there and does confirm that the studio is at least working on a new shooter. While the FPS may disappoint those particularly fond of the franchise’s RTS roots, the prospect of a new entry in the series is exciting for many.
Aside from the 2017 remaster of the original game, there hasn’t been a new StarCraft installment since 2010’s StarCraft 2, released 16 years ago. Therefore, any A new game in the series will likely please fans who were worried that Blizzard would never return to it.
However, there is good reason to be concerned about this new FPS and whether or not it will actually see the light of day. Over the years, Blizzard has canceled several planned or ongoing StarCraft projects, including the Ghost and Ares shooters. Therefore, there is a fear that the developer will undermine this as well.
For now, all we can do is wait and see what time brings, though Blizzard’s hiring for this new open-world shooter gives fans hope that the rumored StarCraft FPS is still alive and well. and hey BlizzCon 2026 StarCraft’s marketing features are quite prominent…
If it does eventually come out, it will likely be playable on Xbox and PC, and potentially PlayStation. As a first-party Xbox title, it is also available via Xbox Game Pass.
