While the free tier of the Gemini app allows you to be fairly productive, subscribing to Google AI Plus or AI Pro unlocks much more.
Usage Limits

When you upload files to Gemini Apps, it needs to “read” the content to provide useful information or answers. The context window is similar to the reading ability. This determines how much content can be understood simultaneously.
Free accounts are limited to these 32,000 tokens or “about 50 pages of text”. AI Plus provides this 128,000 tokensAs AI Pro presents you 1 million tokens or 1,500 pages of text (30,000 lines of code).
This also has an effect file uploads. Free users can only download videos up to 5 minutes long versus 1 hour with AI Pro. Similarly, the audio lasts from 10 minutes to 3 hours at the free level. Code downloads are also limited by subscription.
Laptops allows you to organize projects (trips, exam preparation, etc.) and chats with direct NotebookLM integration. Free users can 100 notebooks each supports up to 50 sources. AI Plus doubles that 200 notebooks with 100 sources each, and AI Pro brings that 500 notebooks and 300 sources.
Personal intelligence
Earlier this year, Gemini created Personal Intelligence Memory available to all users. It connects Tips for Gemini (personalize all responses without specifying each request) and Connected Apps.
Announced in May, Daily short provides proactive and personalized updates every morning. Google AI Plus is required.
- Top of mind: This section shows timely, actionable items. These items mainly come from your Gmail, Calendar and Gemini chats. It helps you stay informed about your most important updates every day.
- Looking ahead: This section focuses on your long-term goals. It provides suggested next steps to help you achieve them. Gemini’s AI models use your Personal Intelligence to create these suggestions.
Image and Video Creation
As a free user, you can create images with Nano Banana 2 (Gemini 3.1 Flash Image). Subscribers get access Nano Banana Pro (Gemini 3 Pro Image) to “redo” generations with a more advanced model.
With video generation Gemini Omni Google AI Plus or AI Pro is required for the conversation editor.
Other Features
Planned events are prompts that run automatically at a time or condition you choose. This feature is only available to subscribers with a limit of 10 simultaneous actions. It can be used for:
- Daily digests from your calendar, to-do list, and email to help you prepare for the day ahead.
- Daily thread tracking stay up to date with the latest developments and trends for any topic you’re following online.
- Daily market reports track your stock portfolio, cryptocurrency prices and the latest financial news of the past day.
- Daily weather forecasts paired with outfit ideas based on a list of your personal wardrobe items.
- Daily practice quizzes helping you learn a new language, professional skill or hobby.
- Daily creative offers or artistic inspiration to kick-start your personal projects each morning.
- Weekly news collection or details about upcoming tour dates and releases for your favorite music artists.
- Weekly collections new local cafes and restaurants to check out on the weekend.
