As a Galaxy S26 Ultra user, these are my top 3 S27 Ultra wishes

i loved Galaxy S26 Ultra more than I thought. The specs on paper led me and others to think that this was going to be another incremental upgrade that didn’t hold my interest as it has for years. After getting one, I realized there’s a lot to love and even small changes can make a big difference.

It pains me to say this, but Galaxy S27 rumors they have already begun to trickle and soon there will be a flood. With that in mind, here are three things I’d like Samsung to change next year.

The Galaxy S26 Ultra has good cameras… mostly. The main, 5x telephoto and ultra-wide take great photos in good lighting. Problems arise when you try to photograph a black cat or use a 3x telephoto sensor.

You read that right – the Galaxy S26 Ultra and my Z Fold 7 don’t like my cat and we can’t have that, right?

When I tried to take photos of the Fatus Cattus in anything other than perfect lighting, the phone was completely unable to focus on it, and never went into macro mode when I zoomed in, as seen above. My Pixel 10 Pro and Razr Fold don’t have this problem, so either there’s something wrong with Samsung’s focus, or the S26 Ultra is intimidating with such a fraudulent example of perfection. It really can be.

What’s particularly frustrating about this is that the macro mode button isn’t always there in Samsung’s camera app – it only appears when it detects you’re close to something, but it can’t here. I have to tap the ultrawide shortcut and take a picture that way, but then the picture is distorted.

The 3x telephoto camera is another pain point. It’s almost unchanged from the Galaxy S21 Ultra, which differs dramatically from the other three sensors that have been significantly improved since 2021.

The S21 Ultra needed 3x cameras. Its periscope telephoto was 10X, so something between that and 1x was a good idea. But Samsung changed that 10x to 5x with the Galaxy S24 Ultra, and since then the 3x sensor has become redundant. The 200-megapixel main sensor takes better photos than the dedicated 3x lens during 3x cropping, so the S26 Ultra often crops the main sensor instead of switching lenses. If the phone itself doesn’t bother with a 3x lens, why should we?

Finally, let’s talk about the design. I don’t want every phone to look the same, but I do want them all to have Qi2 magnets. There are many reasons Samsung does not build magnets into its phones yet and one is the design of cameras.

As you can see in the picture above, the S26 Ultra with a Qi2 case does not play well with many accessories. My Baseus battery bank sticks to the corner of the 5x telephoto lens, so every photo taken with that lens results in a blurry close-up of the battery bank. Most importantly, the phone is not charging properly.

A redesign of Samsung’s cameras would fix this and add some much-needed flair to the old design. A horizontal bar like the Pixel might do the trick, or Samsung could do as I’ve already suggested and remove the useless 3x sensor and move the 5x where it currently resides. Anyway, it’s a funny experience and Samsung should do something about it.

Everything else about the Galaxy S26 Ultra is still great. I know we all wish Samsung had put a bigger silicon-carbon battery in the S27 Ultra. However, my The battery life of the S26 Ultra was very goodI wouldn’t be too disappointed if Samsung didn’t go for a bigger battery. I couldn’t kill this battery in a day no matter how much I threw it, and the 60W charge charges it pretty quickly too.

Despite its similarities to older models, everything about the phone is great. Performance is top-notch, One UI is still one of the best flavors of Android, and aside from the flaws I mentioned earlier, the cameras are fantastic. I know we all want phones to be less boring and to excite us like they used to, but that’s hard to come by. Improvements used to be exciting because there were still huge technological leaps to be made. That’s no longer true, and that’s okay.

If the Galaxy S27 Ultra is as good as the S26 Ultra in these areas and solves my problems with the cameras, it will be as close to perfect as ever.
