This year marks the tenth anniversary of Studio Bones’ anime adaptation ONEsupernatural coming of age series, Mob psychic 100. And to celebrate the occasion, the creatives behind the anime visited Anime Expo to commemorate the occasion. the humble beginnings of the series in 2016 and his Thoughtful finale in 2023.
I’m particularly partial to Anime Expo this year, saving a little money from all the anime I’ve covered on earth. Mob psychic 100. Actually mine Kotaku ranks the best anime of the decade, Mob psychic 100 as he slammed on the leaderboard my absolute favorite show. And I’m not alone in this. The series has its own richness own memes. Chief among them is mentor Reigen Arataka’s claim to fame Tumblr sexy man, baptized by Undertale creator Toby Fox’s Sans x Mob Psycho fanfig. And who can ever forget Mob’s mild-mannered, bowl-cut face graced US headlines in the funniest way imaginable.?
Mob psychic 100 not just for the neurodivergent among us, it’s as much a performance as a work of art, with resonant themes of lush sakuga and coming to yourself. It’s also funny as hell, to be expected from the delightfully absurd mind behind it One Punch Man.
Similarly, it was a distinct honor to celebrate the anime’s 10th anniversary by chatting with the director at Anime Expo. Yuzuru TachikawaActor Shigeo “Mob” Kageyama This is Setsuoand actor Reigen Arataka Takahiro Sakurai about what the series means to them ten years later.

Isaiah Colbert, io9: Celebrating 10 years this year Mob psychic 100. Looking back, what does reaching this milestone mean to each of you, and when did you first realize you were working on a series that would have such a lasting impact on the anime community?
Yuzuru Tachikawa: The difference between how I understand it now and how I was before is a huge difference. When we first did the anime adaptation, what we did was start with a promotional video – we’d call it a PV. It was just a short video to show it to fans of the original manga and potential future fans so we can find creators to work with us.
But the reaction and I’m thinking, “Okay, people are going to see this and say, ‘Yeah, I want to work on that.’ I want to be a part of it. I want to be a collaborator on that project.” But the reality is, when we posted the promotional video, a lot of people saw it and said, “Oh, this looks hard to me, because I think it’s hard. It seems very difficult.”
After we finished the first season, we had some time to grow and the products were launched, and then we got picked up by some different magazines. By the time we got to the second season, there were more people who were like, “Yeah, I want to work on that.” At that time, it was very easy to attract employees to work on that project. And that’s when I realized that the scope of this thing was going to be pretty big because we were able to get people.
Now ten years have passed. There is a new product launched every month. And now they are calling us to participate in panels in the United States. I think about it every day, but it wasn’t always like this.
Setsuo This: For me personally, this title was the first of many for me. I hadn’t worked on a lot of things that I was known for as a voice actor until now. But on the other hand, it was kind of along the way, if you’re asking when I realized it was making a big impact. At a certain point, I just knew. But the moment I realized it, it was more like someone saying, “Wow, you’re the voice of the Mob?” It happened when he said. This was a first for me. Until then, I had not been a voice anyone could recognize. But I think it’s great that I can do it. I was grateful to be able to participate in something that had such a big impact.
If I hadn’t been chosen for this role, I think I would have quit acting. For me after all these years Mob psychic 100 it’s also a title that allows me to continue being a voice actor. It was a continuation of that for me, and I appreciate that.
Takahiro Sakurai: For me, I wanted people to take from him what I got from him. What I mean by that is that I came to this island after a great career. Of course I liked the visual aspect of it and I liked the design. But there were also words and lines from characters that affected me, that affected me in a different way. I felt this was a title for me. I felt this was a story for me. I felt it represented my feelings in a way. I felt like he was representing me and saying things I couldn’t put into words.
So I wanted other people to take it from him. Because I worked on this title, because I was a part of it, other people can see it and feel the same. Feel like, “Wow, that said something. That tells me about me,” or “I identify with that,” so maybe they wouldn’t have done it if I hadn’t.
But I was reminded of the impact of the story at the panel on stage today. The story itself is ONE original writer of the manga – his work is fantastic. And we have a fantastic director to work on this anime. I remembered all this today at the panel on stage.
Mob psychic 100 It’s streaming on Crunchyroll, Hulu, and Netflix.
