The latest version of Google Chrome is out today with a dedicated back button and other minor interface tweaks.
Previously, the three-dot menu only offered a forward button on the top row. Android browser version 150 adds a back button as an alternative to using the system back gesture or navigation key.
It’s been available in Chrome for iOS for a while now. In the desktop browser, you can remove the Forward button by going to Customize Chrome from New Tab Page > Toolbar > Navigation.
Old and new
As part of this change, the info button has been removed and a new “Site controls” item has been added to the ever-growing overflow list. Show reading mode was the last addition in February.
So the Bookmark star and Download button move to the right in an unfortunate lapse in muscle memory.
This change is rolling out with version 150, which is widely available via the Play Store today.
Another small change in this release is “Install and Create Shortcut” at the bottom of the “Add to Home Screen” menu.
