Could Gemini be the new face of Proactive Help Magic Cue?

What’s in a name? Sometimes the name tries to keep things tight and descriptive: You don’t even have to stop and think what’s what. Google TV Broadcaster does. Google introduced Magic Cue with the Pixel 10 last year, and if you’re not already a user, we’d forgive you for not immediately realizing what it does. But now some new evidence suggests that Google may be considering a rebrand.

A few months ago we met with you in a new “Proactive Help” feature in development for Gemini. Descriptions in the code defined it as a tool that uses notification content on your screen and in your apps to make suggestions about what you might want to do next. When you think about it, it’s not too different from what Magic Cue is doing now — and looks at the team’s new find. 9 to 5 Googlethere may be a good reason for this.

The key here is that “beacon” is the Phone’s internal codename for Magic Cue – only the accompanying text makes no mention of Magic Cue. Instead, it’s the initial foundation for repositioning Magic Cue — or at least the functionality as we know it — as Gemini Proactive Assist. And admittedly, it’s a label that seems easier for users to understand at a glance.

Even if this theory makes a lot of sense at face value, we still have a lot of questions about the details, and at the top of that list should be device support. The Gemini branding feels like a step before Google expands access to devices beyond the Pixel 10 series. The idea of ​​expanding Magic Cue Pixel 11 family seems clear enough, but the question is whether it has any hope of fooling older models. This may require rethinking how Magic Cue works, as it is currently designed to work directly on your phone.

In addition to Magic Cue-related content on the phone app, 9 to 5 Google also found a few lines of text referring to Proactive Help in the Google app, which have been slightly revised since we last checked in:
