Samsung admits that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series will feature a new foldable display architecture that will improve the phone’s resistance to unsightly creases in the internal display.
Samsung’s announcement details what the company calls its “Flex Titanium” display panel. It will be used in Samsung’s “next-generation Galaxy foldable devices,” referring to the Galaxy Z Fold 8. Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra.
According to Samsung, the Flex Titanium should offer a better viewing experience. It comes with better staying power and “reduced wrinkle appearance.” It uses a titanium alloy film under the OLED panel. This makes it significantly less flexible than thin-profile plastic. Samsung claims it is less than 30% the thickness of a human hair.
That film is combined with a titanium plate that acts as a screen support. With less air space in this structure, the device provides more support when unfolded and folded back.
Titanium alloy film: sits below the OLED panel, offering 20 times more mechanical rigidity than plastic films, while measuring less than 30% the thickness of a human hair, providing a thinner display panel.
Titanium plate: Supports the display module from the bottom, eliminating air gaps between the module and the adhesive, for a more stable support when unfolded, maintaining the flexibility needed for refolding.
