A leak earlier this week He pointed to a new reMarkable tablet called “Paper Clean”. Details are few (one picture and a pair of sentences), but the initial design suggests that the company aims to open up its experience to a wider audience. Described as a more “mass market” device, the Paper Pure is expected to go on sale in the second quarter of the year. If so, that’s what I hope reMarkable will do.
What do you most want to see from the rumored reMarkable Paper Pure?

1. Appreciate the masses
When a brand is aiming for mass appeal, price is the whole ball game. Currently, reMarkable’s e-ink devices It’s hard to recommend unless you’re completely familiar with the concept. The ReMarkable 2 starts at around $399, but once you add Marker Plus and the folio, you’re realistically looking at $500 or more. New options go even higher Paper Pro sit close to the $600-$700 range depending on how you configure it. If Paper Pure is meant to be more accessible, it will need a price tag that buyers can swallow, and not just a lower entry price, but an all-in-one.
2. Deliver a faster, more responsive experience

If the leak is anything to go by, it looks like the same iconic device we’ve seen before. As one Redditor notedthe picture is actually an existing model from a published photo gallery. Either it’s just a branded placeholder with no impact, or the new device will look very familiar when it lands.
It’s entirely possible that “Pure” really means stripped down Paper Pro. This possibility makes performance improvements more important because they will have to make more improvements. I would like to see an improved processor with a smoother UI. Whether you’re flipping through notebooks or working on larger PDFs, there are still points where the interface lags behind the pen. If it’s the same shell, it can’t ship with the same flaws.
3. Paste with gray color

Color displays are a growing trend in the e-ink space. However, while color is improved, it still comes with compromises in contrast and clarity. For a write-first device, these compromises aren’t necessary, especially when color panels tend to drive up prices. If “Pure” really means focusing on the essentials, I hope the brand sticks with a crisp black-and-white display and avoids overspending on a feature most people won’t need. I’d rather have them offer sharper contrast than colors.
4. Round up the software

Kaitlyn Cimino / Android Authority
Even loyal users agree that reMarkable’s software still has room to grow. Some features are requested again and again and still don’t appear in software updates. Others exist but do not feel fully developed. If this device is meant to reach a wider audience, the app needs to keep up with real workflows, and that means better document management, more flexible recording tools, smarter organization, and effortless syncing.
5. Lose the subscription
Subscriptions are everywhere at this point, but reMarkable still doesn’t quite fit. The brand isn’t paying for the basic writing experience, but it’s charging for features it feels should be standard, especially when you’re already paying a premium for the hardware. If reMarkable is serious about reaching a wider audience, comprehensive pricing would make it more attractive.
6. And finally, add a front light

Kaitlyn Cimino / Android Authority
I realize that given reMarkable’s commitment to “real paper feel” a front light is a stretch, but this is a wish list first and foremost. I love the paper-like display of reMarkable devices. Like many users, I wish I didn’t need perfect lighting to use it. If this is meant to be a mainstream device, the front light would go a long way to making it competitive with the Kindle or Kobo. A soft, warm light would be enough to use the device in more places without completely losing the paper feel.
Paper Pure is rumored to be released in the second quarter of the year. I, for one, am eager to see if reMarkable is willing to make its lineup a little more basic.
