While there are some compromises along the way, we think Mitsubishi’s crossover is really well-rounded and suitable for families on a tight budget.

While we wouldn’t blame you for choosing the most affordable version of the Outlander, we think the SE certainly offers the best bang for your buck if it fits your budget. It is equipped with a power liftgate, panoramic sunroof, faux leather upholstery, digital gauge cluster and a premium Yamaha sound system. In terms of features, you get quite a lot of luxury for the money here.

A versatile interior designed for families

Mitsubishi may not be the big name it once was, but the Outlander shows they can still deliver excellent value for money. If you’re buying a three-row SUV in this price range, you probably know you’ll have to make some compromises in materials used or interior space, but Mitsubishi does a good job of minimizing those compromises.

The third row is versatile

As you might expect, the third row in the Outlander is really spacious enough for kids. Legroom is pretty limited and you won’t be able to fit adults in back with any degree of comfort. Most of these rear seats fold completely flat, expanding cargo space to 30.6 cubic feet. Although the first and second rows are quite spacious, the second row can also be folded completely flat if you need to carry large loads.

Mitsubishi recently updated the Outlander and overall, we’re impressed with how modern and solid everything feels inside. Most surfaces are covered with quality materials. The seats are cloth-covered as standard, but top-of-the-line models come with quilted leather upholstery, three-zone automatic climate control, a panoramic sunroof, and heated and ventilated front seats.

A lot of standard technology for the money

Each model comes standard with a 12.3-inch touchscreen on the dashboard that controls the infotainment system. Base models have a more traditional gauge cluster with a small screen in the center, but higher trim levels get a full digital gauge display instead. The best-equipped models also come with a head-up display.

Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on every model, allowing you to easily mirror your smartphone. Wireless charging of smartphones is also available in the range. An eight-speaker Yamaha sound system is standard on even the most affordable models, but an upgraded 12-speaker system is optional.

The Outlander is more of a comfortable cruiser than anything else

No strong performance indicators

While not devastatingly disappointing, the Outlander’s performance figures are a bit lackluster compared to some other options on the market. We don’t just mean acceleration and handling here, but overall efficiency. However, it has a comfortable ride and most buyers won’t find much to complain about.

Not the fastest off the line

Powering every 2026 Mitsubishi Outlander is a turbo-four powered by a 48-volt mild hybrid system that puts down a relatively reasonable amount of power. This power is sent to the front wheels as standard, while all-wheel drive is optional. The Trail Edition and Ralliart come standard with all-wheel drive, but don’t let the names of these trims fool you that they’re particularly capable off-road. Regardless of model, Mitsubishi offers a continuously variable transmission.

Above all, Mitsubishi focuses on providing a smooth and comfortable ride, which is one of the most important factors for crossover buyers. We caution buyers considering 20-inch wheels, as they reduce ride quality. While it’s not a lot of fun to drive, we have no serious complaints about the driving dynamics here.
