Call of Duty: WarzoneSeason 2 Reloaded update launched Black Ops Royalean all-new battle royale experience inspired by the original Blackout mode, originally released during Black Ops 4. Player feedback on Black Ops Royale has been largely positive, but one segment of the community has been unhappy with the release: solo queues.
Starting today, solo queues are back Call of Duty: Warzone and available for the first time in Black Ops Royale mode. Additionally, the update brought Verdanski back online for players who prefer the standard battle royale experience over the Blackout-inspired mode. Battle Royale Casual Quads – a mode that introduces bots into the player mix Worldly – also returned.

The Call of Duty development teams at Treyarch and Raven Software issued a challenge to launch the Black Ops Royale mode with 4-player teams, requiring everyone to switch to the new mode when launched with a squad of four. Those who couldn’t get enough friends together had the option of either going into their matches at a disadvantage due to their smaller squad size or allowing them to be paired with random players to complete the team.

The Call of Duty team also decided to remove other modes from Call of Duty: Warzone during pre-release, including the Standard Battle Royale experience in Verdansk, casual battle royale modes, and Resurgence in Rebirth Island and Haven’s Hollow.
The development team believed that the decision to limit the available modes and squad sizes for Black Ops Royale was necessary to collect valuable gameplay and player behavior data. Data from pre-release will be used alongside player feedback to further tune and shape the Black Ops Royale experience.
Raven Software also warned solo players that since Black Ops Royale was designed with quads in mind, the mode may need some fine-tuning to make it more suitable for solo play.
Solos are coming to Black Ops Royale tomorrow! Remember, this mod was originally designed and balanced to run as a Quads experience. While we recognize the strong interest in the Solos option, remember that the game is not yet fully optimized for single player… https://t.co/0qzEd0pyv4March 18, 2026
Along with the introduction of Solo queues for Black Ops Royale, the Standard Battle Royale mode built into Verdansk has returned to Warzone after being disabled during Black Ops Royale’s launch window.
Warzone has traditionally been limited to only one active “big map” at a time to avoid disrupting the player base and keeping a healthy player count for faster matchmaking. Players can now take part in Verdansk in Standard Battle Royale or Avalon in Black Ops Royale.
Players also have multiple game modes and maps to choose from with this latest update. The Resurgence playlist will rotate on a timer, alternating between Rebirth Island and Haven’s Hollow for solos, duos, and quads.
Resurgence Casual Quads are also live on the timer between Rebirth and Haven’s Hollow. A limited-time Extreme Resurgence mode is also active with 100 players on a small map for quick 11-minute matches, but it’s only for four in Haven’s Hollow.
Battle Royale playlists are limited to Random Quads or standard Quads in Verdansk. 3-man squads that don’t want to pick random only have Resurgence as an option for this week.
