Pixel 11 “improved” face unlock, 11a Tensor G6 says


As we await the Pixel 11 launch, rumors of the Pixel 11a and even the 12a are already surfacing.

according to Mystical LeaksThe Pixel 11a, codenamed “Formosan,” will be powered by the latest Tensor G6 chip. This comes after the Pixel 10a uses the same chip as its immediate predecessor, with rumors suggesting the G5 will cost a lot more.

It will be paired with the latest Titan M3 security chip, PowerVR C-Series CXTP-48-1536 GPU and MediaTek M90 modem, though the RAM remains at 8GB.

The 6.3-inch display remains 1080×2424, although there is a small increase in brightness to 2250 nits HDR and 3350 nits peak.

However, there is a slight drop in minimum battery capacity from 5,000 mAh to 4,870 mAh on the 10a. Today, the only camera specification is the presence of a new front-facing camera, codenamed “dockaebi”.

In terms of colors, there will be Obsidian (black) and Mist (described as silver), while the fun colors will be Olive (green) and Frost (purple).

The Pixel 11a will likely be launched in March 2027, while Mystic Leaks also shared that the Pixel 12a is codenamed “marmoset”.

As for what’s coming next month, today’s post says that “Google has actually improved Face Unlock on the Pixel 11.” In particular, one “source” says the experiment will be “faster, safer and more accurate in low light.”

The Pixel 11 is rumored to feature IR-enabled face unlock. In MayMystic Leaks shared that the hardware is “simply not ready for release yet.”

There are no other details in today’s update, such as whether these improvements are software-based or if the hardware is actually ready. It’s not clear how algorithm updates can address the lack of light needed for the current camera-only approach.
