Apple is reportedly testing a new “Live Notes” system at some retail locations. According to a new report, this system uses artificial intelligence to record and transcribe Genius Bar sessions with customers.
In his latest release Turn it on newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that the Live Notes system allows Apple Store employees to “record sessions with an AI tool that transcribes and summarizes their conversations with customers.”
That transcript is then stored in Apple’s internal Genius Bar system. Purpose, according to Bloombergis to allow employees to focus on customer service rather than taking notes.
Live Notes Genius Bar reportedly requires both the employee and customer to sign in before a session can be recorded.
Still, Apple retailers are said to be worried about how this Live Notes system will eventually be used:
The test nonetheless raised concerns among some Apple retail employees, who worried that the recordings could eventually be used to train employees or influence performance evaluations. But the company noted that the records themselves will not be kept and that managers do not accept transcripts. Employees can also edit both the transcript and the summary before saving to Apple’s internal Genius Bar system. Moreover, it must be an affiliate program.
Currently, Live Notes is not mandatory. Bloomberg It’s “unclear” whether Apple plans to expand the system to more stores, make it mandatory or change the way transcripts are used.
