Two of AT&T’s home internet plans are getting price hikes soon

according to internal staff documents obtained by an anonymous source PhoneArenaThe carrier will charge an additional $5 per month for the following two plans starting August 16:

• AT&T Internet customers established June 2024 through July 2025 on fiber and copper plans.
• Access to the $15/month Copper Plan for speeds up to 50Mbps from AT&T customers.

This is separate AT&T’s recent increase of $1 as part of the Administrative and Regulatory Cost Recovery fee for wireless customers.

What’s remarkable about this upcoming price hike is that it affects people Access from AT&T a program designed to provide affordable internet to low-income families.

While AT&T’s copper-based plans are on the decline as the carrier moves to fiber infrastructure, there’s no denying that users of the now-grandfathered $15-a-month Copper Plan will soon see their bills climb to $20. A $5 monthly increase in your home internet bill can be especially troubling for individuals and families using the AT&T plan.

Subscribers should have already seen a note about the $5 increase in the “News You Can Use” section of their account. This message started appearing on billing statements starting July 16, just one month before the expected price increase.

The leaked documents also include notes to employees about “customer handling,” which includes checking whether Copper Plan customers are eligible for AT&T Fiber or Internet Air service.

However, given that some of these plans cost much more than the soon-to-be $20/month Copper Plan, a large portion of legacy users may not want to make the leap.
