Paramount+ Subscribers in the US can look forward to boldly going where no man has gone before with Captain Pike and the crew of the Starship Enterprise in season four. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds this Thursday. But before that, if you’re looking for a movie or two for movie night this week, below are some of my primo picks.
My picks for the week come from a few new additions to P+ for July and include my top picks – one of the scariest J-horror remakes I’ve ever seen, which I repeat over and over again when I can. Plus there’s a classic gangster hunt, a cult-hit burger joint, and a worldwide run against the undead.

They are untouchable
Eliot Ness and his crew take on Capone’s Chicago
Real-life mobster and bootlegger Al Capone was the subject of many popular Hollywood movies and TV series dating back to the 1950s – two different Capone movies (1975 and 2020) and HBO Boardwalk Empire (2010) is among them. Good Burger
Kanan and Kel’s serves up 90s fast-food chaos
“Welcome to Good Burger, Good Burger. May I take your order?” Long before he was Kenan Thompson abouttToday Night Live‘s longest serving player, he and his partner All this Cast member Kel Mitchell drew one of the show’s funniest and most popular sketches about a clueless fast-food worker and turned it into a big-screen cult hit.
In Good Burgerfilm, Mitchell’s happily positive and naive Ed translates well to the big screen, as does Thompson’s Dexter Reed, a teenager who takes a job at the titular burger joint to pay for repairs to his teacher’s (Sinbad) car after crashing into it. The entire film is ridiculously fun hijinks and banter as the two partners team up to stop mega burger chain Mondo Burger from stealing Ed’s delicious secret sauce recipe and putting them out of business. Good Burger and its 2023 sequel, Good Burger 2both available on Paramount+.

World War Z
Brad Pitt in a very fast zombie apocalypse
The most traditional “zombie” movies or TV shows have brain-hungry, easy-to-kill minions that look more like your sleepwalking grandmother than real danger. Insanity in 2013 World War Z (the highest-grossing zombie movie of all time, don’t you know), however, a few key things break the mold and give it a scarier twist.
First, forget the oozing foot-draggers and prepare for hordes of spastic, fast-moving infected who will do anything to get to their victims, including piling on top of each other to form human, wall-scale chains. Henceforth, this epidemic is not confined to one city or small town; it is global, combining geopolitics and all the military might of the planet to prevent the end of the world as we know it. But what he does have is a hero and an emotional core. Brad Pitt plays retired UN investigator Gerry Lane. His personal goal is to return to his beloved wife (Don’t killExcellent Mireille Enos) and children may be the only ones who can stop it.

Watch the tape and you have seven days to die
