You may not have heard of Xteink, but it rocks eReader world with the small size of its devices: you can fit them in your pocket so you’re more likely to read your favorite book than your Instagram feed. The Chinese brand is capitalizing on this by releasing the X4 Pro, a similar small reader that adds some much-requested features.
The X4 Pro it has the same 4.3-inch E-Ink display as the regular X4, but adds a touchscreen that makes navigation more intuitive. The adjustable front light also makes the eReader more usable for night reading, while the larger 1100 mAh battery (up from 650 mAh) allows for weeks of use. It charges via magnetic pogo pins instead of USB-C, which is worth noting if you prefer a more universal power source.
As before, the back is magnetic. You can place the X4 Pro on the back of a Qi2 or MagSafe-equipped phone Pixel 10 or iPhone 17even your refrigerator. You won’t have to stuff your eReader in a bag to keep it safe.
Software remains the selling point. While there’s no support for Amazon Kindle books or direct integration with library platforms like Libby, Xteink has unlocked the software with “zero third-party restrictions.” It handles common EPUB purchases and also supports common media formats like MOBI as well as PDF, TXT, JPG and PNG.
You’ll find 16GB of storage on the X4 Pro, expandable up to 256GB via microSD cards. If you don’t have a microSD to USB adapter handy, you can transfer books via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

Should you buy the X4 Pro over the Kindle?
The X4 Pro is now available for $99 Xteink site and currently includes a free magnetic case, although you can’t choose a color.
Whether it’s worth choosing the X4 Pro over mainstream alternatives like the Amazon Kindle depends on how and what you read. The allure, of course, is having a pocketable eReader that can save you from a nightmare. It can also save space in your carry-on bags during the flight. It can be ideal if you tend to buy or access EPUB books public domain e-books.
If you rely on Libby or other library systems that use encrypted formats to check out e-books, you’ll want to pass. comics and manga. If you have a large library from Amazon or other proprietary stores, it is better to buy a compatible eReader or use the corresponding app on your phone.
If you mostly read in bed or on the sofa, a small eReader like this will be pointless, there’s no problem with portability. Since you have to hold Xteink’s reader closer, you may want a wider-screen competitor if your vision isn’t what it used to be.
Even if format support is limited, the size may work in the X4 Pro’s favor. You can have an eye-friendly ePaper for the books you buy, and your phone for anything Xteink doesn’t support.
