Here’s what we know so far about Gears of War: E-Yesterday’s multiplayer game According to Xbox Wireit will feature a 12-player PvE troop mode, similar to Gears of War 2’s troop mode, but on a larger scale, where you and other players will work to fend off an onslaught of Locusts across massive city maps.
Additionally, a 4v4 PvP mode will be introduced, where players battle on classic Gears of War-style symmetrically designed maps with new switching mechanics.
Additionally, playing both of these modes will help you complete in-game challenges, events, and achievements, and these multiplayer modes will be updated seasonally via the content roadmap.
Players who have pre-ordered or subscribed to the game Xbox Game Pass/PC Game Pass will be able to play these multiplayer modes early during the Open Beta test weekend starting August 6, 2026.
However, the game, which was announced on July 30, 2026, will give fans a brief early taste of what they will see before then.

Gears of War’s multiplayer modes are a highlight alongside the main campaign, featuring insanely brutal, fast-paced and challenging battles that always end in fun chaos.
I still have fond memories of my brother screaming in terror in Gears of War 2’s Horde Mode before a swarm of locusts left them alone in blind panic.
So I can’t wait to see how Gears of War: E-Day plans to improve Horde Mode, because the prospect of 12 players fighting the Locust at once and getting everyone killed by friendly fire sounds like a mess to me.
Gears of War: E-Day is ready to launch Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Game Passand PC via Windows and Steam on October 6, 2026.
