How many games do you know that update their system requirements 17 years after release? Given how much Minecraft has evolved over almost two decades, it’s probably no surprise that the game requires more powerful hardware than it did when it first started. Mojang has updated the old system requirements for the game, and honestly, considering how the game has evolved, the new requirements are very reasonable.
Minecraft has new recommended requirements, and they’re not as scary as they sound
They are actually very pleased
On it Minecraft siteMojang has announced a fix to the game’s system requirements. This is usually bad news for gamers worried about their hardware lagging, but don’t panic. This isn’t Mojang announcing a graphical overhaul so big that thousands of old PCs can’t play Minecraft, but rather that the company is updating features to reflect what the game is all about. indeed Needs in this day and age:
Previous system requirements for Minecraft: Java Edition were based on older hardware and older graphics technology. While these features represent what Minecraft needed in the past, they no longer represent what the game needs to run well today.
That’s why we’re raising both the minimum and recommended system requirements for Minecraft: Java Edition. New requirements include more memory, more powerful processors, and graphics hardware that supports Vulkan 1.3.
The Minecraft team wanted to make sure that if someone were to run the game and set the Tez graphics preset, they should get 30FPS at a minimum of 1080p resolution. So the minimum requirements are now:
-
64-bit system
-
8 GB of RAM if you have a GPU, or 12 GB of RAM with integrated graphics
-
4 core processor
-
Vulkan 1.3 capable GPU with at least 2GB of VRAM
The recommended requirements will allow someone to play the game at 60 FPS with 1080p resolution with Fancy graphics. To achieve this you will need:
-
64-bit system
-
16 GB of RAM
-
Intel Core i5-12400, AMD Ryzen 5 5600 or Apple M2 Pro
-
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060, AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT, Intel Arc A580 or Apple M2 Pro with 6 GB VRAM.
This is because Minecraft got a big graphical update and more, because the old system requirements no longer reflected what the game was like. As someone who likes to play on heavily modded servers, I can confirm that 8GB of RAM is very close to Minecraft these days, so it was worth tweaking the requirements to reflect reality.
