Samsung’s first triple-decker phone wasn’t supposed to be a blockbuster hit, but it looks like the company is already planning an even bigger successor. It is reported that Samsung has started work on the second generation Galaxy Z TriFoldit’s probably slated for 2027, and the company might be ready to sell it to more people this time around.
Korean edition ETNews reports that Samsung has already shared details of the new device with its component partners, indicating that development is well underway ahead of its launch. While details on the hardware are still scarce, the report suggests that the next TriFold will likely retain the same screen size as the current model. The hardware is not that exciting, but Samsung’s manufacturing strategy is interesting.
This is a big difference from Samsung’s original Galaxy Z TriFold a limited number of experimental devices and markets. The company made it look more like a technology showcase than a volume vendor, making it difficult for most buyers to get their hands on. If the latest report is to be believed, Samsung now seems confident enough to bring the concept closer to the mainstream by ramping up production and increasing availability.

The report also claims that Samsung could introduce not three, but four premium foldable devices in the second half of 2027: the Galaxy Z Flip 9, Galaxy Z Fold 9, Galaxy Z Fold 9 Ultra, and the second-generation Galaxy Z TriFold. It would also put to rest recent rumors suggesting it was this year Galaxy Z Flip 8 It could be Samsung’s last foldable device with a lid.
Samsung is also said to be expanding its Galaxy S family. Previous reports have suggested that the Galaxy S27 lineup could include the Galaxy S27, S27 Plus, S27 Pro, and S27 Ultra. If this happens, Samsung will have a “4+4” flagship strategy – four Galaxy S devices in the first half of the year and four foldable devices in the second half.
It’s still early. Samsung hasn’t made any announcements about any of these plans, and a lot could change by 2027.

I fully support Samsung’s efforts to push the boundaries of foldable devices, but the tri-fold is only important if most people can actually buy it. A flashy concept with limited production and a high price doesn’t make an industry grow. The real improvement would be if Samsung were finally serious about making the next TriFold more widely available.
