AppleCare One launches in the UK as theft and loss coverage expands

AppleCare One – a version of AppleCare+ that lets you protect multiple products for a single monthly fee – is rolling out in the UK.

In addition, AppleCare+ Protected against Theft and Damage also extends from iPhone only to iPad and Apple Watch…

Standard AppleCare+ covers accidental damage and out-of-warranty product failure, while the more comprehensive AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss is available for iPhone in the UK only. Now you will be able to choose this plan for iPad and Apple Watch as well.

Additionally, if you want full coverage for three or more Apple products, you can opt for AppleCare One instead, which will be cheaper than individual plans.

AppleCare One costs £16.99 a month for three products, and additional devices can be added for £4.99 a month each. It will be available from tomorrow.

If you currently have an AppleCare+ plan for one or more products, you’ll be able to transfer them to AppleCare One seamlessly, even if you purchase an annual plan. Adding a product to AppleCare One will automatically cancel its existing AppleCare+ plan and Apple will refund the unused portion. Similarly, if you use an Apple trade-in to upgrade any product on your plan, coverage will automatically transfer between devices.

In most cases, you’ll be able to sign up on your device or on apple.com. You may be asked to check the condition of your device, but this can usually be done from your own home by performing diagnostics and taking photos. This requirement is waived if you already have or recently purchased AppleCare+ coverage. Only in exceptional cases will you need to visit an Apple store.

There is some small print you should be aware of. First, existing devices must be no more than four years old at the time of registration (one year for headphones) and must be registered with your Apple account. For AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss, you get unlimited accidental damage claims, with a maximum of two theft and loss claims per year. For AppleCare One, you only get three claims per year across all devices.

If you need to make a claim, the following additional charges apply per device:

  • iPhone: £109
  • iPad: £99
  • Review: £89
  • MacBook Neo: $49 for screen or case, $149 for everything else
  • All other Macs: $99 for screen or case, $299 for everything else
