The Gemini app simplifies the level of thinking by adding settings for notifications

The Gemini app today introduces several tweaks that streamline the interface for new features.

Previously, the Gemini app’s model selector used a drop-down menu to set the “Thinking Level” in a two-step process:

  • Standard: Best for most questions
  • Expanded thinking: Complex problem solving

Google already makes this simple by clearly listing the default “Standard” and showing “Advanced Thinking” for just a one-step process. We’re seeing this change spread across Android and the web.

Another tweak today sees Gemini Spark on Android switch to top tabs for All, Scheduled, Need Input, In Progress and Completed. The old menu button in the upper right corner is now the magnifying glass icon for “Search Tasks”. It follows Google AI Pro users gained access to Spark last week.

Meanwhile, the Gemini app on Android introduces new settings to control Notifications for:

  • Daily short: For a personalized view of your day
  • Planned events: For updates on recurring actions
  • Answers: For complex questions that take time
  • Product updates and tips: For features, models and tips

It’s useful if you check the Daily brief by going directly to the app every morning instead of using an alert. Notifications are not yet widely distributed. Once available, you can find them in the account menu.
