Google Photos for Android rolled out a trio of minor updates today, including a new glow setting.
Glow appears as an outline “around people or objects you can move around in your photos” like creating a sticker.
It remains on by default, but you can now go to “Photos view” from the three-dot overflow menu, or Settings > Preferences for the new “Show Glow” toggle.
Meanwhile, we’re seeing a Material 3 Expressive redesign of Settings. It makes full use of the containers on the home page, Backup, and Preferences to better differentiate line items. Other pages such as Notifications, Sharing, Apps and devices and Privacy remain in the previous design for a piecemeal approach.
Many Google apps that feature M3 Expressive in the main interface are stuck on old settings pages.
We see both changes implemented with Google Photos 7.85 on Android.
Old and new
Last update today allows Quickly take a new photo while using Remix, Photo to video or other AI templates. Instead of selecting a photo from your library, there’s a large camera FAB (floating action button) that launches the device’s camera.
It’s meant for “quick and temporary input like a simple picture or a funny face” that saves you from having to exit Google Photos:
