TL; DR
- The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 now offers a button to change the aspect ratio of apps running on the cover screen.
- This feature used to require the MultiStar app, but now it’s built into One UI 9 on the new Flip phone.
- The button also supports Labs apps this time around, allowing you to adjust the aspect ratio of Google Maps, YouTube, and more.
Samsung lets you launch almost any app Galaxy Z Flip Cover screen of the line through the MultiStar app, but many of them are not optimized for this display in the first place. A solution Galaxy Z Flip 7 MultiStar’s aspect ratio button is to enable, but there’s good news if you’re hoping for a built-in solution.
We can confirm that Galaxy Z Flip 8‘s cover screen now offers an aspect ratio button in One UI 9 (thanks, Dylan H!). This button is located at the bottom of the screen and allows you to switch between full screen mode, portrait orientation (left/right/center) and square aspect ratio. Check out the screenshots below and the video at the top of the page.
This is a welcome change from the Galaxy Z Flip 7. Samsung’s previous Flip phone required you to activate the button via the MultiStar app. So, this Galaxy Z Flip 8 should be a more comfortable and seamless option.
In addition, the Flip 7’s aspect ratio button only supported apps launched via the MultiStar launcher widget, and thus didn’t support Labs apps at all. In contrast, the Flip 8’s button supports official cover display apps (including Labs apps) and unsupported apps that must first be activated via MultiStar. Either way, this should make life a little easier if your favorite apps don’t play well with the default aspect ratio.
This isn’t the only notable One UI 9 feature recently spotted on Samsung’s new foldable devices. Other notable additions include automatic rotation lock per screen and zoom controls per app. Now, about allowing Flip phone owners to run any app on the flip screen without using MultiStar.

Samsung’s sleekest flip phone just got smarter
The Galaxy Z Flip 8 refines Samsung’s iconic flip phone with a slimmer, lighter design, a larger 4,300mAh battery, and smarter FlexWindow and Gemini AI that support more apps. It’s also the most pocket-friendly way to experience Samsung’s foldable vision.
