Samsung hasn’t forgotten about its AR glasses, as a recent report highlights an interview with an executive talking about what consumers can expect.
in an interview with CNBCJay Kim, Samsung’s vice president of mobile business, briefly discussed the company’s upcoming smart glasses. After MWC 2026 ended, Kim candidly said that Samsung’s smart glasses will have a “built-in camera” that will be placed “at eye level.” Kim told CNBC that AI is a big part of Samsung’s glasses that it wants to improve. Specifically, the glasses must have artificial intelligence software that can “understand” what the wearer is looking at.
Android Central’s Take
What I get from this is that Samsung could position its smart glasses with more usability-oriented AI. Given that Jay Kim refused to answer about the presence of a display, and that the company is focused on artificial intelligence that provides “a lot” of information, I may not care if it has a display or not. Maybe there’s a speaker that lets you hear the AI. If not, reaching for your phone (which we already do) might be fine too.
From there, the AI would send the data it collected from the lenses to your phone for processing. Kim adds that this will result in users receiving “a lot of information”. It’s said to be a significant part of how users interact with Samsung’s smart glasses and (presumably) Galaxy device.
Kim says the lenses will connect to your phone to process the camera’s data. When asked whether the product will have a screen, Kim reportedly refused to answer.
We’ve been buzzing with rumors about Samsung’s smart glasses for a while now. It was reported last year A bold step by Samsung—smart glasses—may go on sale in 2026. Samsung wanted to position itself as a prominent smart glasses manufacturer to compete with others. Its own brand of glasses will be separate from the one it works with Google. These rumors claim that the company’s product will not have a display, so Kim’s silence on the matter may not come as much of a shock.
Android Central’s Take
Among the many things discussed during the earnings call, this was probably the most exciting news. Samsung’s smart glasses will likely debut in 2026 (no pun intended). Just wondering when. Time for Unpacked this summer? Maybe a fall release? Or somewhere between now and then? But Samsung remained silent for the most part. We know it could be 2026, now we know about the eye-level camera. There are still many unknowns.
It was reported that Samsung is developing glasses under the HAEAN Project. During Samsung’s earnings call earlier this year, the company made a brief remark about the pursuit of smart glasses. In fact, it has confirmed that AR glasses will be introduced in 2026 as part of a wider AI expansion. These glasses are said to be developed in collaboration with Google, Warby Parker and Gentle Monster. Additionally, there may be two versions of its smart glasses on the way.
