Apple just released new AirPods Pro 3 firmware and more

Apple launched iOS 26.4, iPadOS 26.4, macOS 26.4and more software updates today, and now the company has debuted new firmware for AirPods Pro 3, AirPods Pro 2, and more.

The latest AirPods firmware arrived before the AirPods Max 2 release

Joining today’s lineup of new Apple software releases, headlined by iOS 26.4, is new firmware for AirPods.

Apple has released a software version 8B39 for certain AirPods models, including:

  • AirPods Pro 3
  • AirPods Pro 2
  • AirPods 4

The new release may also support AirPods Max 2, but we have not been able to confirm this yet.

Apple time introduced AirPods Max 2 last week noted that some features require iOS 26.4 running the latest AirPods firmware. So it is likely that this 8B39 release is that new firmware.

iOS 26.4 doesn’t offer any new AirPods-specific features, but the new firmware is expected to improve performance with the latest updates.

Apple has yet to publish release notes for today’s software, but most AirPods software releases simply focus on “bug fixes and other improvements.” When release notes are available, they will be published here.

Unlike most Apple devices, the new AirPods software cannot be manually installed by users. Instead, Apple says will be installed in the background when various conditions are met. These conditions include being within range of the iPhone, keeping the AirPods in the charging case, etc. includes

Have your AirPods been updated to the new firmware? Noticed any changes? Let us know in the comments.
